I'm looking into buying a few new pieces. In your opinions which up and coming artists should I look into buying? I know there will be many opinions on this and I look forward to hearing what you come up with. I have a few ideas, but wanted to get a wider opinion. Thanks in advance.

Presumably you mean for investment, as otherwise I would assume it would just be a case of looking around galleries until you see things you like and buying those.

It's hard to get suggest without knowing your taste in art. Which artists were you leaning toward so far?

Bit of a gamble this one, in my experience unless you have a bottomless pit of money buy what you like not to make money, because you probably won't I personally think Hayden Kays has he's work at affordable prices still

Have Snik, Martin bell a Bristol artist, Ben Allen plus others. I like colourful interesting pieces. I’m just looking for art that is not too expensive that has a good chance of going up in value. Thanks for all the advice so far.

Every month or so someone asks about the latest upcoming artist...its like asking what your favourite ice cream flavour is. My answer would be look around, use insta, follow some artists you like and check out the various publications out there. You have to carve your own path...don't just follow what anyone else says and make your own mind up. Thats the beauty of art, others may not see what you see.

Its a question thats usually asked monthly by those wanting to invest in whats popular. Most upcoming artists now are already thousands for an original without a show

I'm surprised more people haven't taken the opportunity to hype artists in their collecion. Personally I think buying up and coming artists is a crap shoot, I'd rather buy artists with a track record, a gallery and some secondary sales.

I would just concentrate on originals and ignore the print releases and ignore any artists talked about on UAA. Most prints are disappointing and pale in comparison.  Check out art news sites, blogs, and art talks (brooklyn rail, etc) for info and see if you like any of the artists they talk about.

Check out the £50 art thread and buy what you like. No risk of losing money, you have art you like. If it goes up bonus. Other than that you would have to get in with galleries and investors and see who they are buying. In the words of public enemy - Don't believe the hype

In my opinion, there are a few younger artists who are already on their way to a meteoric rise.

I’m not sure of your budget but I highly recommend keeping track of the Artist Rosters at the following galleries:

These galleries are all what I would consider the “pipeline” to larger galleries, institutions and auctions.

Or take a punt in an artist who is doing something unique. There are a lot of great artists out there but they need to stand out from the crowd in order to get decent PR that in turn will generate interest and sales. Banksy is a great example of that but there weren't so many cctv cameras when he started out.

ok, but there are lots of nostalgia prints I can buy for a lot less than one of his. So what accounted for his rise? Having just looked it seems he's been around a while and is in fact a writer as well. Also comes from Chelsea art school which I guess doesnt hurt. Dave from croydon poly might find it less easy.

☝🏻In short the only way if purely looking to make any money but involves having the cash in the first instance.

Otherwise stick with what you like on your wall and don’t stress about it as buying up and coming in hope they might make it big is equivalent of buying penny stocks.

Well if no one else wants to hype I will.
I’m buying a few works from an African artist called Nelson Makomo, I think his work is amazing and he is starting to get into the collections of quite a few celebrities and museums and he did the cover for Time magazine last year. You can pick up his originals for around £1-4k for works on paper and £5–12k for larger canvases. Prints are cheap and still in the £100s.
