Why Futura Is The F*ing MAN!, by sgolby on Aug 15, 2019 19:47:21 GMT 1, So I came across this earlier and meant to post. Lenny, being the solid dude that he is, is trying to figure out a new way to release his work so that people, instead of bots secure his work. I am so proud of the dude for taking this step, I am sure it is not easy, but the reality is flippers would still be broke if it wasn't for the fans that stuck with and collected artists like Futura, and others over the past decades, and it is really nice to see an artist who makes art and merch trying to figure out a way to get his people back in pole position on release day:

Why Futura Is The F*ing MAN!, by soupy on Aug 15, 2019 19:55:51 GMT 1, while it is noble on the surface.... the way futuralabs released their stuff, it only fed into the "bots". half the time it is people cart jacking one another. here's why:
(1) multiple small drops (2) each listing was a unique item with an inventory of 1 ... but there would be 10 listings of the same item.
if you are going to sell 100 of the same tshirt..... it is better for everyone to go after 1 tshirt listing with inventory of 100. he would drop 5 tshirt listings at a time even though they are all identical. it certainly creates the appearance of demand and gets all the hypebeasters worked up into a frenzy. if you weren't the fastest for any particular listing, then the chane of you getting something on a second try is 0.000000%. however, if the listing had inventory of 100, then chances are you had a shot at buying it.

Why Futura Is The F*ing MAN!, by Daniel Silk on Aug 15, 2019 19:57:27 GMT 1, Mmmmm interesting. That Mets release thing looked to me like the majority of them were going to be flipped. Must be a simple solution to the problem 😕 but I’m not sure what it is.

Personally I think Obey has the best anti bot automation in the art release game that I know of and even they get taken. S

Must be a simple solution to the problem 😕 but I’m not sure what it is. Judging by his posts it seems he is going back to analog in away. According to some members in here Banksy has a VIP program that is very hush hush, so maybe he will do something like this.
The simple fact is there is zero way around Bots, the people who make them are too too smart. Just like antivirus can never protect you from the next virus, just the last one. Anti bot systems in retail software are just not that great. so reality is the best prevention is knowing your customers and going back to analog as much as possible.

Why Futura Is The F*ing MAN!, by iamzero on Aug 15, 2019 20:17:53 GMT 1, I still don’t understand the myth behind the Banksy VIP list. You have to be loaded to get on it by spending money with him or it’s a list of old school buyers that many are potential flippers behind the scenes anyway (like some long-standing members on here)... in which case you’re just lining their pockets and helping them become rich. It makes no sense.

It makes no sense. Yeah, I think the same. I guess it would have some sort of rule that you can’t sell anything or you will be excluded in the future, but that just means secret deals between dealers or a time when they all suddenly decide to cash in and flood the market with Banksy Prints we haven’t seen before 🤪 Crash!

It makes no sense. i imagine they have a list of collectors who they know will buy and keep prints/art, which they can probably track by who hasn't transferred their COAs in x years. the way i interpreted futura's post was that he plans on doing something similar (i.e. only selling to buyers that he knows are looking to keep the art). given the popularity of these artists, i'm sure they know enough solid collectors to make their editions go private and keep them in good hands.
makes sense to me. sucks that i'm probably not on that list, but i understand the logic behind it.

Why Futura Is The F*ing MAN!, by soupy on Aug 16, 2019 15:05:39 GMT 1, the post was in reference to a bunch of tshirts, lanyards, skate decks, etc .... the way they were approaching the drops only amplified the bot presence. these items weren't limited in any way and there was more than enough inventory to meet demand (except maybe the skate decks). i mean... the drops were from an IG account with just over 3K followers. all bunch of artificially created hype imo. the drop announcements were vague... with no info on items for sale, cost, etc... people were going in blind and didn't even know what they were purchasing.
if they would have done an announced random drop and put up all inventory of each item and had 1 listing for each item.... the majority of people would have been able to purchase. not sure why anyone would want a $120 tshirt either way. decks were even $125 and not even signed. obey just released a set of 3 signed decks for $200 and they were available for purchase with ease.

Why Futura Is The F*ing MAN!, by Yeah Yeah Yeah Round2 on Aug 17, 2019 6:44:21 GMT 1, I’ll always be a fan of Futura’s work but FL releases have been a bit meh. There’s no need to hype any of it. It’s nice to see the label brought back again, but it was easy to purchase years ago, now it’s about creating a hype frenzy to score a lanyard. The new print looks nice.

Why Futura Is The F*ing MAN!, by puritog on Aug 17, 2019 15:55:59 GMT 1, IMO the latest releases were a bit about the fun in participating in Futura's small quests to buy some limited keychains or lanyards. The stuff was cool, but mostly inexpensive items that I don't think can be resold for a lot more (however you can't underestimate the hype waves). Using bots to buy all the keychains is a bit exaggerated and fucked up Futura's release game.
