Surprised how cheap these Yue Minjun Swatch watches are 😳 I guess maybe it's an open edition? I would have thought the demand for these would be high, but they don't look very well made judging by the photos.

Why these days does everything have to sell out immediately or be considered a flop? It’s quite a recent thing, it wasn’t long ago you’d get a chance to buy at your leisure. Now (with social media) art is deliberately marketed with a release time, tiered pricing, hype and fomo. Same applies for trainers, tickets etc.

I've only been buying seriously the last 2-3 years, so this is all I've known.  But I'm intrigued, what did it used to be like?  Take an older Hirst spot print, did these sell out instantly or could you approach the gallery leisurely and buy one?  Were they even accessible or inaccessible?  I can't tell if art has become more democratised, with the effect that it's just harder to get
