Tagging organs!, by .dappy on Jan 12, 2018 21:18:02 GMT 1, ... apparently it is not too uncommon ... the initials normally disappear after a little while, but this surgeon got caught as the liver did not quite recover ... and they had to go in again ... a different surgeon this time

It was in the news a while ago; but again today as the surgeon was sentenced today. Very odd thing to do. I expect that it has ended his career. I know one patient said she felt her body had been invaded (or something similar). Another said she didn’t mind, and was thankful that the surgeon had saved her life. I like to think that I would feel like the latter, but cannot say for sure.

Tagging organs!, by settingson on Jan 12, 2018 21:31:28 GMT 1, It's odd because on here it's more desired with a signature!
Joking apart it's a bit strange but tbh if it was me I would just be happy to have received the transplant and not really too concerned as I doubt he would have done it if it influenced the success rate of the procedure.

Tagging organs!, by Argiebaji on Jan 12, 2018 21:58:53 GMT 1, I'm with you coach. I'd hope I'd just be happy that my transplant worked!
As long as he didn't stencil an arsenal badge on my organs I reckon I could live with it!

To state the obvious, can someone photoshop some tags on a liver already?

Okay, photoshopping MW liver next.

Tagging organs!, by oxfordwelshchap on Jan 13, 2018 12:44:19 GMT 1, ... no harm was done with the tagging of the livers ... I totally disagree. This was inappropriate injury to an organ due to extreme arrogance. It could easily of resulted in significant harm. This surgeon is a disgrace and should have been struck off immediately, I highly doubt that the remainder of the theatre staff were ignorant of this abuse and should also be reprimanded. If I was the patient involved I would sue him immediately for assault.

Tagging organs!, by oxfordwelshchap on Jan 13, 2018 12:47:41 GMT 1, It's odd because on here it's more desired with a signature! Joking apart it's a bit strange but tbh if it was me I would just be happy to have received the transplant and not really too concerned as I doubt he would have done it if it influenced the success rate of the procedure. You should be concerned. If he will damage your liver for no reason imagine what else he would consider doing; lying to cover mistakes, fraud in the private sector, late for appointments/work. In my experience these things go hand-in-hand and those who become surgeons tend to be a bit like bankers in their arrogance and self importance.

It was accepted that this is a totally harmless procedure and will result in no damage st all. That’s why he wasn’t struck off. Arrogant possibly. I would like to think I would feel it was cool if it was me but it cannot be allowed in a professional hospital environment. If asked I would have said “no problem, tag away”

Tagging organs!, by oxfordwelshchap on Jan 13, 2018 12:51:19 GMT 1, A friend of mine knew Simon Bramhall due to problems with his liver. He said that whilst he didn't do his operation he was a brilliant surgeon and person and it wouldn't have bothered him in the slightest had his liver been "tagged" by Dr Bramhall. A patient would say that as they are relieved to be alive. There are thousands of other 'brilliant' surgeons that could have performed the operation without assaulting the patient in the meantime.
How does the patient know the surgeon is 'brilliant' by the way? Single subjective perspective - the figures about surgeon success are obscured by layers of figures and paperwork in the UK. Smoke and fire spring to mind with this case. Just look at that breast surgeon currently in prison for 20 years!

Unfortunately a committee of people with knowledge would have found differently to what has been communicated to you through the media.

Just taken a quick look and a broadly accepted version was updated about 20 years ago by the WHO. While, physcians may not literally ‘take it’ it’s still a universal ethical code.
