Buyer BEWARE of ebay seller melissa_tortoise, by londonfx on Nov 12, 2016 18:28:05 GMT 1, BEWARE OR EBAY SELLER melissa_tortoise
I won an auction on ebay for a "Sepukku" Pejac print a couple of weeks ago (which many members have been keeping an eye on) and after paying for the item, the seller decided to refund my money and refused to send the print.
Her initial correspondence was fine, and we discussed collecting the print in person rather than posting it. And then her second message took a massive change of direction.
Here is the sellers exact message
I'm so sorry but I can't sell the print anymore. I own it with my friend and he says that he doesn't want to sell it for that price because he believes it's worth a lot more. I feel terrible about pulling out his main reason is that he has been reviewing comments on UAA and there appears to be vested interests in making sure that this print was kept at a low price by those who hold Meadow. Members on the site were told to boycott the print. Presumably to engineer as few bidders as possible. With over sixty watchers there were only 6 bidders.
So we are not selling the print anymore. Hope you're not too disappointed
After contacting ebay and explaining the situation, they couldn't do anything. As my money was refunded, it was out of their hands! They couldn't even tell me if the seller would be reprimanded or not, for not following through with our binding contract. Which was finalised once the auction had ended, and i had the winning bid.
I have no idea if the seller or her "friend" are members on the forum. But as the seller has lots of other artwork for sale, i wanted to bring it to peoples attention.

Buyer BEWARE of ebay seller melissa_tortoise, by yorkie on Nov 12, 2016 18:41:28 GMT 1, That is absolutely disgusting.
If the price was too low then put a reserve on it. I think eBay's response to you is also really bad as they should indeed set an example but all they are saying is .... not our problem.
Sorry you didn't get what you bid, won and wanted....
I do believe that what goes around comes around.... best wishes to you.

I understand change or heart etc but to pull out of a deal because it's been sold to cheaply Is a disgrace, with eBay you have the opportunity to set a reserve, best offer or buy it now so surely the auction result should stand, I know LondonFX personally and he told me all about this and I have to say eBay were useless, no protection for buyers when a seller does this! But hey things happen for a reason so hopefully LondonFX will be landing something bigger and better and the seller will screw up...it's called karma !

Buyer BEWARE of ebay seller melissa_tortoise, by tartarus on Nov 12, 2016 18:42:14 GMT 1, Thats a pretty crap way of dealing with ebay listings. They are all over the place with prices on anything. nothing else you can do but leave the relevant feedback on that one. Pretty irritating for you though, wouldnt be happy if it happened to me thats for sure.

Buyer BEWARE of ebay seller melissa_tortoise, by londonfx on Nov 12, 2016 18:47:21 GMT 1, exactly!!!
if they wanted more money, then set a reserve. The annoying thing is that it was her 2nd message that she changed her mind. Her first message didn't mention anything, and the fact that we were arranging collection, showed that she was happy with the deal.
Cant understand ebays response either. We've all sold things that we had hoped went for more. But we've had to deal with it and accept it! Ive left negative feedback, but doubt that will make any difference.
Just waiting for them to re list it now!
And not quite sure what this boycott is that she's talking about!

If anything, 'Meadow owners' would've wanted this to achieve more to up the price of Meadow.

Buyer BEWARE of ebay seller melissa_tortoise, by abstractheory on Nov 13, 2016 0:06:48 GMT 1, I love how if you're the buyer and you bid, they call it a binding contract to buy the item and forced to pay. But apparently not binding the other way around to force a seller to sell an item after the auction has ended. I've seen this happen too many times. What's your recourse, leave bad feedback. That's basically all you can do unless you want to hire an attorney to pursue or write them a scary letter compelling them to sell the piece that they are obligated and contractually agreed to sell.

Offer them the ebay cut. If they're not happy with that then shame them so it's more difficult for them to sell in the future.

Really? If somewhere sells on eBay and it happens to sell under value it's ethically ok for the seller to just walk away? Isn't that what a reserve is for? I think it's completely unethical.

If it sold cheap I don't blame the seller for cancelling the sale.... As long as you got a refund and haven't lost money. The buyer lost out on this deal clearly. Not prospective buyer mind you but actual buyer. Money actually changed hands.
The way I was raised is that once you lay your chips down you can't just pick them back up when someone calls your bet.
The seller set terms, accepted the terms, took payment, and then decided the deal wasn't right and is trying to change the terms. I would understand some sort of extenuating circumstances that could be worked out between parties but that's not the case here. Greed is the only motivation I see in backing out.
This is a simply a question of integrity. Just because you technically can cancel doesn't mean you should in my opinion. Reprehensible behavior. It is what it is but It's sad that we've gotten to a place where this would be considered acceptable or tolerable behavior.

Buyer BEWARE of ebay seller melissa_tortoise, by Viking Surfer on Nov 13, 2016 7:51:06 GMT 1, With over sixty watchers there were only 6 bidders.
This is standard on most Ebay items. Just because there are 60 watchers, it doesn't mean there will be 60 bidders, most likely not even 10% will actually bid.
It just means we all want to see what the f'u'ck the item sells for.
Shocking behaviour. What was the print number so that we can watch out for this in future?

Buyer BEWARE of ebay seller melissa_tortoise, by Schrödinger's Chat on Nov 13, 2016 8:42:57 GMT 1, I've had quite a few disappointments on eBay over the 13 years or so I've used it. Loads of awful behaviour, cancellations, shill bidding, buying outside of eBay and being ripped off, someone cancelling their paypal payment after receiving the item from me etc etc.
My only advise is to just try and remain emotionally detached/neutral about any purchase until the item is in your hand, and sadly expect at every stage that it could be snatched away at any moment. It's just seems to come with the territory.
There are of course loads of great sellers as well and I have also had some excellent dealings and got some great deals over the years.

Buyer BEWARE of ebay seller melissa_tortoise, by Deleted on Nov 13, 2016 10:23:51 GMT 1, Although this eBay user was unethical, calling them out with a "beware" thread is perhaps a bit harsh. Personally, that title in my view is really for fraud or criminal activity rather than a skewed moral compass.
