Ebay Scams: Buyer using a Stolen CC?, by nobokov on Nov 11, 2016 19:53:35 GMT 1, This is probably not the right area, but not sure where to post it.
Has anyone sold on ebay and encountered an buyer who might be paying from a stolen credit card?
The buyers name, address, number, and reviews don't seem to jive and I'm trying to figure out what their angle is and how I can reduce liability. If anyone has any experience or suggestions, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

That way it is logged at least.

Ebay is notoriously bad at protecting sellers.

Thanks for the suggestion. Yeah I called them earlier and they said that I could cancel it, but it would negatively affect my record or something. I'll try a live chat as well so it's logged as you suggested. Thanks again!

If anyone has any experience or suggestions, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks! If you're at all concerned and you haven't shipped anything yet, I'd back out of the sale. Ebay is notoriously bad at protecting sellers. Thanks for your feedback! I tried calling the number the buyer provided and it was a fax number. The address is for some business that has a number that doesn't work. The user's feedback seems to have thousands of reviews in just a year, with identical comments from multiple users.
I sent the user a message voicing my concerns and letting them know that I'll only send it via registered mail with restricted delivery to the named buyer and asking for a current phone number. Hopefully that diligence, scares them into cancelling it themselves, especially since they haven't paid yet.
But I'm just not sure what their angle is.
Would you cancel it even if it is a negative against your account?

Ebay Scams: Buyer using a Stolen CC?, by settingson on Nov 11, 2016 23:00:37 GMT 1, Think you are allowed up to 3 cancellations before they give you a black mark so to speak. If they are suspect and it's a high value sale I wouldn't risk it. Think you have done the right thing so far and if they are dodgy then they will probably just let the deal lapse and you can then cancel it without any strikes against you. Item was lost/broken always seems to be a favoured cancellation reason!

Ebay Scams: Buyer using a Stolen CC?, by ABC on Nov 12, 2016 0:57:08 GMT 1, I once sold (a long while ago now) a laptop for ยฃ600 ish. I sent it off. 3 weeks later paypal reversed the transaction and put my paypal into -ยฃ600. the purchaser had used a a cloaned card. The biggest mistake I made was to send it too an unconfirmed address so I lost the lot.

Ebay Scams: Buyer using a Stolen CC?, by ToonKiller on Nov 12, 2016 6:09:35 GMT 1, Had sold a brand new IPad on EBay just to have PayPal put a clam that it was bought with a stolen credit card. Can't remember if the address was confirmed or not but it was insured with tracking which I provided to PayPal. Ended up winning the case through PayPal per their policy and after that I never thought of it again.
Fast forward 2 months later and I get a delivery from USPS Office of Inspector General and it's our IPad still in the box I had shipped it in. Had a letter inside and long story short. Lady got scammed by some Russian dude where he'd have her buy things online with a stolen CC he provided and she'd ship the items to Russia. My IPad was found in her Apartment during the raid.
Re listed it on EBay and sold it for a second time Cha Ching

Ebay Scams: Buyer using a Stolen CC?, by Poster Bob on Nov 12, 2016 10:03:10 GMT 1, Live Chat is useless. It's just some ESL kid reading from a script and not meant to resolve issues like this.
