Jan 28th Lazarides Auction..., by publicsquare on Jan 30, 2015 3:27:04 GMT 1, What a great thread; it's always so nice to see people talking (and thinking) seriously about this work. First thing's first, "Street Art" is the worst name for this movement as it falsely implies that this work has to be on the street. Talk to any of these artists and they'll tell you it's part, but not all of it. Personally, I favor the term "Urban Art" because it seems more honestly reflective of the location, materials, practice and themes I see in the pop-influenced stencil set and the abstract graff world.

Jan 28th Lazarides Auction..., by maddoghoek100 on Jan 30, 2015 6:56:30 GMT 1, im not sure i get the list and would echo the comments of others that we are experiencing a continuation of something that started in the 70s and 80s, and the biggest artists of today openly acknowledge that lineage in their work. 2 seminal events in street and urban that significantly advance the broad awareness and recognition of street/urban painting as art in my mind
Basquiat Warhol collaboration 1984 Haring Crack is Wack mural 1986
But in keeping with your list the Banksy Painted Elephant in LA 2006, was certainly a big deal for the US audience, but much less important in my mind in comparison to the Hope poster, which was in very late 2007 when it first appeared (almost 2008) and not 2006 as your list says

Jan 28th Lazarides Auction..., by daveart on Jan 30, 2015 17:33:16 GMT 1, Made a few more updates ..
Looks like 2006-2010 was a pretty major stretch...
To those wondering what it's all about .. Just making conversation . Better than the thread saying it's all about the $$ eh?
It really was more fun when everything was less serious and less money involved. I have really enjoyed this forum and the craziness of sending money to someone thousands of miles away for artwork unseen .. And having it show up perfectly. I personally live very far crom where any of this takes place in real life so monitoring the events listed on the forum has breathed life into it all for me for 7-8 years .. Pretty cool really.
So I was thinking how did we get to the point where two major auction houses have sales in a short span ... and is this another major point . Probably not ... But hey worth a chat over anyway.
