NEW MURAL HIGHLIGHTING AFFORDABLE HOUSING ISSUE IS TALLEST IN BRITAIN
A newly completed 125 ft (38.2 metre) high mural painted on a condemned council owned tower block in Acton, West London is the tallest street artwork in the UK.
The artwork depicts a mother and child looking forlornly from their soon to be demolished council block at the luxury apartment complexes being built around them. Stik, the formerly homeless street artist who painted the mural said: โAffordable housing in Britain is under threat, this piece is to remind the world that all people need homesโ. Charles Hocking House was built for low income families in 1967 and is earmarked to be torn down in 2016.
Stikโs large format site specific artworks focus on social issues such as homelessness and can be found across the globe from New York to Tokyo.
โBig Motherโ by Stik is painted on Charles Hocking House, Bollo Bridge Road, South Acton, W3 8DA East Acton Estate, 10 minutes from Acton Town tube station and is visible from the Piccadilly line and London flight paths.
