Pete Hawkins at Outsiders, by Winter on Apr 25, 2013 15:00:11 GMT 1, Massive talent and his show tonight will be amazing. Very surprised this hasn't been mentioned on here yet. I think this one will take people by surprise.

Pete Hawkins at Outsiders, by misnomer on Apr 27, 2013 7:57:38 GMT 1, seems I must be in a minority then, but I thought if was..... meh - I don't know it just left me cold.
subjects/Imagery/iconography; seen it all before. Not saying anything new or interesting to me
The style of painting was reasonably competent, but that's all. Too clean for the objects they were on. Too 'cute' with no sense of using that?
Regardless of the blurb, the use of the 'found objects' seemed to have no reason, beyond some suggestion of connection to 'street'. Which is a shame because there's a lot could be done with them. Paintings on doors that to me made little use of or reference to the fact they were on doors (with all the connotations and possibilities of "doors") for example. The one with the paramilitary/SWAT types in waiting being the only one that began to use the 'door' notion.
sometimes I think people queue up to coo appreciatively just because something's at Laz...
"Married to the possibility a door represents, the pieces become potent fetishes representing opportunities taken or missed.
โDoors hold a lot of meaning,โ explains Pete, โand not only as transitional points in peopleโs lives. Thereโs the inherent sense of nostalgia they bear. Plus,โ as childrenโs writer C S Lewis knew only too well, โthereโs the compelling suggestion of what may lie behind them.โ
sorry but I didn't feel any of that
feel free to disagree, I'm sure plenty of you will - Ha
