It is only those with a vested interest that try to Inflate the price of this print to ridiculous levels! Namely around £8-10k ! Get real guys there's hundreds of these in various colours..

nola!!, by Deleted on Jan 21, 2013 15:00:03 GMT 1, That's my point ! There are none to compare prices on so where does the value of £8-£10k come from? All we have is what someone is willing to sell for/buy for which recently is £6300. If one or two start selling on here at £8k or more then that's different. Or £10k retail .

nola!!, by craigf on Jan 21, 2013 15:01:43 GMT 1, VAT on art is subject in some cases VAT margin schemes. Specifically if a piece of art is purchased on the secondry market the gallery only pays VAT on the margin between what it cost them and what they sold it for
If we assume a selling price of £8k and that they paid £5k and use very simple maths the VAT on the margin is around £600 leaving a £2.4k gross profit before running costs etc. Small businesses do not pay corporation tax at 40%, they will range between 20% and 23%. This will be after costs etc. and again will be on the profir earned. With zero running costs to offset they will pay circa £600 VAT and £500 tax leaving a £1,900 post tax profit.
This doesn't answer the price question, but gives a perspective on the way the revenue would claw profit from the gallery

So it's price is higher etc. only takes couple of auctions etc and its on the rise however in all honesty it has been these sorts of prices for some while in the threads and any I have seen. To be fair people do not seem willing to sell cheaply eg if I ain't getting that I'll keep it

for what its worth I think its as JohnnyH says, it's a much sought after print so people tend to stick to their guns on price. And fair enough too. At the end of the day its a piece of paper thats worth what someone will pay for it, if the buyer wants 8k and you think it's worth 6k then don't buy it...

nola!!, by redfred on Jan 21, 2013 16:19:12 GMT 1, I think the trouble why there are few sellers is that it is one of the few prints that seeems to rise in price every year whereas most of them seem to just bump along at the same price year after year. In other words from its history it is a good investment piece plus it is a very wall friendly image. You have to be talking 25% rise per year, so unless you need the cash then it doesnt make sence to move it on!
