Am I asking too much?, by bigp on Oct 2, 2012 13:13:13 GMT 1, Ive been looking for some new Banksy prints for a while now.I have had about 9 deals set up (4 off of here & 5 off of ebay),but when I mention getting someone from pest control to take a look before I buy it,they pull out.
I just dont get it,every one of them said their print was 100% real, yet they wont send an email which would take 10mins max.I can usually find out the same day if the prints ok or not.
My question is to you do you think Im asking too much of the seller.after all Ill be parting with well over a Grand of my hard earned reddies.

Am I asking too much?, by mouser on Oct 2, 2012 13:20:51 GMT 1, No, and the fact that they are saying no should raise alarm bells.
In the day and age of well documented forgeries etc, you cant be too carefull, as you say its a grand or more of your money.
Most sellers with nothing to fear should have no issues contacting PC, they dont even need to have the cert, the email confirmation of details is often enough to settle a buyers queries.
Sellers are happy to charge a premium for supplying a PC cert with a print, I'd say its reasonable enough to ask a seller for a little peace of mind when effectively handing over a considerable amount of cash to a stranger.

Am I asking too much?, by Ruggs on Oct 2, 2012 13:47:26 GMT 1, I purchased my Love Rat on the secondary market. The guy, who was the original owner, advertised it on Auction Saboteur. Prior to us sealing a deal I asked if he could prove its authenticity and he forwarded me his name which he said was registered with POW and the original Protx purchase e-mail. Unfortunately, he had no Pest Control certficate. Anyway, I contacted Dora and sure enough his name came up as the owner. With this small, but significant piece of info we closed out a deal and he sent me everything I needed including receipt, signed letter and the original tube with postage label and POW's old Willow Street address label on it. These details along with pictures of the print ensured that my Pest Control would be a mere formality, which it was. Certificate came through within a couple of weeks. All i'd say is leave no stone unturned. If I couldn't get the details I was after I would walk away.

Am I asking too much?, by confused2 on Oct 2, 2012 13:57:29 GMT 1, All of the above. Check the ownership with POW/ PC, and if a seller is unwilling to provide you with the information then I'd carefully consider going through with the purchase.
There will be instances where a print has changed hands without the ownership being updated or a seller having no real provenence, and in those situations you have to make a judgement call on the risks you're willing to take.

Mouser pretty much sums this up in his note above. Definately walk away if ANYTHING seems odd. A genuine seller will encourage you to check out the trail for your peace of mind.

Am I asking too much?, by maadbeats on Oct 2, 2012 16:13:13 GMT 1, If I owned a banksy and had coa. I would water mark the hell out of it so anyone cant just print it off and use it as their own then email it to the potential buyer. I also think it's the sellers responsibility to try and curb any further shenanigans

Am I asking too much?, by bigp on Oct 2, 2012 18:29:16 GMT 1, Don't ever email the PC certificate to anyone without obscuring the number on the di faced tenner and the edition number. If the print you're buying has a PC certificate I don't see the problem. Buy the print, double check with PC and if there is a problem open a case in paypal.
The thing is I ask the people im trying to buy off to email pest control with these details direct. So I dont have to see the cetificate and print number until I do the deal in person. But they still refuse..
