Ever seen this Banksy before? , by Terry Fuckwitt on Mar 13, 2022 19:32:55 GMT 1, Why would parlophone have printed 100 of these and gifted them? In 2003 Banksy was hardly a household name, so a bit of a red flag.

That it is from an edition of 100 and gifted by parlophone.

Did tate ward give you that info? I would say they were printed for promotional purposes. In 2003, I would have rather been gifted a packet of digestives.

Ever seen this Banksy before? , by STP on Mar 13, 2022 19:54:16 GMT 1, Banksy painted two versions of the album artwork at an east London squat - one with text and another without in which the couple are also reversed.
I know nothing of the provenance of the poster, but given the shadows at the bottom it's simply a reproduction of a photograph of the original piece with text, with no additional art direction from the record company.

No idea if the print is genuine though. Never seen or heard about it.

Ever seen this Banksy before? , by Terry Fuckwitt on Mar 13, 2022 20:01:23 GMT 1, Yes. They were not for promotion. I have never seen this version at all- I suppose if someone else on here could say they have one or seen one I suppose it would help. But if no one at all has ever seen one, then they probably not the best at promoting Think Tank ๐
Tate Ward also say those chalk Harings are from a NY subway though

Ever seen this Banksy before? , by Reader on Mar 13, 2022 20:06:28 GMT 1, Ah... No, that part is certainly true. The owner of the items designed these with Mr B himself. It's just a design mock up, stencil by Banksy and text/layout by Tony Stiles & Tristan Manco from Tijuna Design in Stokes Croft. Tristan you'll probably know from Stencil Graffiti and various other books. This is one of 15 or so works that Tony printed out. So not a Banksy as such. Kinda like printing out a Stone Roses cover and claiming it's an authentic John Squire work. Chances of a COA are zero so...ok as a souvenir I guess, it's a bootleg poster worth a couple of hundred quid.

Colours are quite different to those printouts, there's one without text/font also.

No idea if the print is genuine though. Never seen or heard about it. Yes, but I don't see why parlophone would have gifted these. In 2003 these would be proper tat as a gift. I donโt agree. An art print poster of a record cover by a famous band done by a hot street artist as a gift to the bigger record stores and other important customers. Pretty common practice to do things like that I would say.

If the whole field is aware of a hand sprayed Royksopp record cover from 2001, it's inconceivable that this wouldn't have been flagged in the last 20 years.

If they are given out to the record stores as you say, then that would be classed as promo material, which was my point in question.

Like a VIP promo? Well it is a pretty promo but I love the Think Tank image- my favourite Banksy. ๐๐ฅฐ๐ค
Yeah, I'm not putting it down at all, just the 'gifted by parlophone' doesn't add up imo. Estimate seems crazy high, but some people seem happy to spend this on banksy ephemera. Tate ward sold one of those Beyond the streets posters for silly money, so this could easily go the same way. Were you looking at buying it or just looking for more info on it?

Ever seen this Banksy before? , by Acme Thunderer on Mar 13, 2022 21:47:28 GMT 1, For anyone that buys this, there will continue to be uncertainty around the authenticity of it if they ever want to resell (unless they resell through TateWard again). For that reason alone, it should be one to avoid.
