Ai Weiwei Amsterdam Light Festival edition, by Pawel on Nov 7, 2017 22:22:27 GMT 1, BTW from what I've learnt the piece has the signature graved (I guess engraved but that's the word was used) similarly to the recent ebay statue. The COA will be signed.

It doesn’t appeal to me, that’s for sure. And the thin line through the canals is not my cup of tea either.

Ai Weiwei Amsterdam Light Festival edition, by ca on Nov 7, 2017 22:44:38 GMT 1, anyone can share some light on how this fits in Ai Weiwei's usual message and imagery? simply looks a bit random to me, coming from him, but then again not the biggest fan so might of missed something

Something about borders, but I already wasn't sold on the work itself. Feels like something by Olafur Eliasson.

The first link above, in English, helps explain if not a bit obtuse. Tied into the Lighg Festivsl and his refugee thing.

Ai Weiwei Amsterdam Light Festival edition, by kjg on Nov 7, 2017 22:58:59 GMT 1, It’s just some string of red light hung between the bridges over the grachten/canals. The canals were for defense purposes, but mainly for water management/draining.
Really can’t see what that has to do with Ai Weiwei’s idea of connecting people, refugees etc.

The canals were for defense purposes, but mainly for water management/draining. Really can’t see what that has to do with Ai Weiwei’s idea of connecting people, refugees etc. In some ways it is a work much like Christo's, a large landscape piece, which by its size, placement and provenance causes conversation on said topic. It seems that is the purpose of most of his work, to bring on introspection if not conversation , of which his snake made out of kids' backpacks particularly spoke volumes to me.

Ai Weiwei Amsterdam Light Festival edition, by Hairbland on Nov 7, 2017 23:43:44 GMT 1, A snake made out of children’s backpacks? Ok. Let me chew on that for a while. One of his more memorable works, created in reaction to the shoddy construction in China, particularly of kids schools, created after the earthquakes that caused the collapse of said school (s) killing many children. Speaks to the corruption in China. Exhibited in a number of museums. Sounds like someone has a homework assignment.
Google Ai Weiwei backpack snake - it's worth it.

Ai Weiwei Amsterdam Light Festival edition, by mushrooms on Nov 8, 2017 1:12:23 GMT 1, I love this work, though I'll probably need a step-up transformer to display it. I will be in Amsterdam at the time of the Meet and Greet. That figured heavily into my decision to purchase as he is a very inspiring person. Plus, I'll get the VAT refunded I believe. So that makes it about 2K Euro for a lovely minimalist sculpture by Ai Weiwei in an edition of 100, with a signed COA.
I also have tickets to the NL premier of Human Flow at the beautiful Carre on the 19th.
It's going to be a lovely holiday. Cannot wait!

Ai Weiwei Amsterdam Light Festival edition, by Pawel on Nov 8, 2017 11:52:30 GMT 1, I'm not sure what this part means. "The artist will sign a limited edition of 100 pieces. It is unprecedented for Ai WeiWei to do this"
If the signature is engraved is not really that unprecedented (ebay sculpture, even skateboards). and will there be unsigned pieces available as well? Gotta send another email...
