Offering ยฃ1800 (ish) for sepia Morons, by wave on Aug 14, 2008 18:21:35 GMT 1, if you think those prints are worth what you think they're worth just sell them and buy a sepia with the cash
I very may well have to but its easier all round this way. I think the value of what i'm offering is approx ยฃ1.9 - ยฃ2k inc the cash?
I'd much prefer doing a straight trade with another forum member, that goes without saying. I bought my S&S through a fellow member and that was a real pleasure.

Guy Ritchie Commissions Banksy for Madonna Portrait , by wave on Aug 12, 2008 7:54:02 GMT 1, WOW! We got a sh1t-ton of Guy Ritchie haters on here... Why all the animosity? I thought 'Snatch' and 'Lockstock' were great! And, I'd still totally knock the back outta Madonna! ...Even though, she does look like she just main-lined a grocery bag full of black-tar heroin, into her neck. Seriously, I'd hit it! I'm a sad individual, with very low standards... if any.
'Snatch' and 'Lockstock' were great but go out and rent Revolver, wtf

WILL SOMEONE BUY THIS ยฃ299 MICALLEF BEFORE I DO, by wave on Jul 3, 2008 0:11:58 GMT 1, Crazy because when he does, people are going to be fighting over these as the value shoots back up. Just over a year ago, Most Micallef prices were up there with Neate. Madness. Sad thing is, only then will people suddenly remember what a great print this is. Where's the madness? People are raving about Neate, but often his prints sell for around cost too in some cases! It was a cheap edition of 1000, to make his prints accessible to people. The image is excellent, it's massive, there is only one problem with it, which is the nature of most of it's buyers!!! Most of the 1000 bought it with no intention of keeping it and only praise his work, because they feel they can profit from it. Just like Banksy, Dface and all of the most popular creators of images for prints. I think Micallef's a genius, but if I were him, I'd be steering well clear of this market in the future, he really doesn't need it and it's full of ass-holes, who judge his art, based on ebay's print prices!
Madness because as soon as the prices dropped, so called genuine fans were offloading this print as fast as they could.
I agree that a lot bought this for the wrong reasons but i'd like to think many didn't. As an artist/designer myself, i certainly don't judge whether a piece of art is good or bad by its price tag. I do know however with regards to AM that i can suddenly afford a JD when a year ago i couldn't, this is a good thing.
Can you elaborate on what you mean by "steering well clear of this market"? Do you not think its great that a release of 750 colour trolleys for example got people their first signed Banksy? Why should art remain so Elitist? Surely this is what drives the obsession with value = good art in the first place.

Faile/FairQ Update, by wave on Jul 1, 2008 18:45:17 GMT 1, No its 17.5 for a print. 5% for an original piece only. Still arguing with customs that vanity fight is 'technically' an original because of the handfinishing and that it is a limited edition rather than edition but they're not having it. wavydave I think you need to argue a little harder, if the print was created by the artist, technically by his or her own fair hand then 5% is the rule, it also has to be a limited edition eg 2 of 25 or 100 or whatever, that they cant argue with. Giving them too much information is not good, let them do the research to counter your argument, the more work they have to do the less likely they are to chase it, few of them are experts in this line, i've got them to agree to turn over decisions on a number of occasions on the phone, but you need your research first. You dont have to tell them the work was created on an automated press, especially as you dont know that, or you could always contact faile to see exactly how and who produced the runs.
Nice one mr. I got them on the 5% ruling in the end.
customs.hmrc.gov.uk/channelsPortalWebApp/channelsPortalWebApp.portal?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=pageLibrary_ShowContent&id=HMCE_CL_000906&propertyType=document
Told them it was:
a. Handfinished by the artist. b. 'limited' edition.
Have paid an extra ยฃ40 but could have been a lot worse + no parcelforce ' holding fees' on top. Cheers for the advice. One for all forum members to remember next time you get stung.

Faile/FairQ Update, by wave on Jun 30, 2008 22:48:19 GMT 1, I really really want one but card is now officially maxed out plus got stitched up by customs on vanity fight. f**kers Hmm imagine the vat on this baby Ouch. I'm hoping there will be quite a few floating around at cost. Great image hey! how did you get stung ? they shipped as gifts valued at 4 usd.......?
Yeah mine was too. Just got unlucky. Think they just decided to do a random check. They asked for my paypal receipt. Was tempted to make up a false invoice but its just not worth it as i'm sure they knew the real value and the fine if you get found out is huge. Got stuff before and its gone through okay. Othertimes not.

Flipping art from galleries question, by wave on Jun 26, 2008 14:21:02 GMT 1, Well i only would like to add from the perspective of running an on-line gallery that we would not prioritize your purchase if we found out that you sold the artwork as soon as you had bought it! In a situation where we had an edition that sold out upon release you would come bottom of the list! Simple as that! I do not think your sale would be an offense to-wards us, but dis-respect to wards the artist! There is currently a system in place to reward artists on secondary market sales (over ยฃ1000 sales), but i very much doubt that any ebay floggers pay any attention to this! Cheers Ragnar
Are galleries making profit off the back of selling art as guilty as those people flipping the same print probably for 2/3's less on ebay? How much of the gallery's profit is actually going to the artist and are they equally to blame for pushing art out of the hands of real fans? I saw My Confessions selling for over 2k in a gallery. WTF
I wouldn't mind however paying a little over at secondary prices if i knew the artist was also getting their share but lets not take the piss.

Faile Fight Vanity Print at paper monster, by wave on Jun 25, 2008 18:49:26 GMT 1, Yeah done that and v tempted. Trouble is if i do that and they do double check my paypal transactions then i am really fucked. Pay ยฃ100 vat or risk a fine of shedloads? I wondered if i could get it classed under the 5% import rule.

Faile Fight Vanity Print at paper monster, by wave on Jun 25, 2008 18:34:50 GMT 1, Yeah it's definatly the Vanity Fight and it is marked down as low value. Unfortunately they want to see my paypal receipt before releasing it so they must be suspicious of the real value. Basically as long as i pay the duty they'll pass it through. If i refuse to pay it it'll just get returned to sender.
