Banksy - German art magazine, by kjg on Sept 21, 2022 14:35:10 GMT 1, I have a few German art magazines that I would like to sell. The mags are called 'art - das Kunstmagazin' and they are the editions from April 2007. This edition has a 10 page story on Banksy with lots of pictures.
The magazine comes with a nice print too. This print, that was only available to subscribers, measures roughly 20x26 cm and depicts Banksy's 'Sunflower from Petrol Station'.
I really don't know what the value of this one is, and what to ask for it. Maybe 200 euro?
Anyway, I am open to deals. Please send me a PM if you are interested!

Watch Collectors โ Buy & Sell, by kjg on Sept 16, 2022 21:35:04 GMT 1, What brand of Watch do you wear everyday? Or do you have different watches depending on the occasion? https://www.instagram.com/p/CiYUcc2MaEC Haaa, I haven't worn a watch for years! ๐คฃ And I think now after so long it would feel really strange having one on my wrist. Actually with CFS, every little added thing can wear me down ๐ every bit of added weight uses energy that I just don't have spare. I am actually wearing the same watch as Prince William does. An Omega Seamaster Professional 300M (also known as the Bond watch, because Pierce Brosnan wears it in some of his Bond movies).

THE MET LOTTERY, by kjg on Sept 10, 2022 14:22:17 GMT 1, 1. Part A: Please identify the photographer of the image, as well as the model. The photographer of this image is Helmut Newton. The model depictured is Nadja Auermann. 2. Part D, first video: Professor Gad Saad refers to assortative mating in evolutionary theory (in essence, birds of a feather flock together), which he describes as "very much the mechanism that drives mate choice". Cite two specific examples mentioned by him of assortative mating cues that people most assort on and, in one or more sentences for each, describe their effect or how they typically work in practice (as if explaining to someone hearing about the subject for the first time). Gad Saad mentions a few of those assertive mating cues. Two of those mating cues are exhibiting generosity and the way you dress. 1. Exhibiting generosity (or nuptial gift giving as Saad calls it): if you date a rich woman or a woman that is richer than you are and you show signs of cheapness during that date the chances of a second date with that woman are near zero. It is an important signal to a woman to show commitment by gifting her something that is costly. This is an example of a so-called Zahavian signal: for a signal to be honest it has to be costly. 2. The way you dress: the attire of a man has great effect on the likelihood of a woman saying yes to a date. The higher the status you are showing with your clothes, the higher the chance for a rendezvous with a woman. I will confirm the task of air-drumming beyond the 1:44 mark of July Talkโs Touch tomorrow evening! Congratulations yet again, kjg . You win Competition 52. REFERENCE ANSWERS โ COMPETITION 521. Part A: Please identify the photographer of the image, as well as the model. For anyone not entirely au fait with photography and fashion models, a reverse-image search was the most efficient first step to take here. Photographer: Helmut NewtonModel: Nadja AuermannThis photo was part of the 'High & Mighty' editorial in the February 1995 issue of American Vogue. It would seem comparable in sensibility to the later film by David Cronenberg, Crash โ released in Canada in October 1996, and in the USA and UK in Spring 1997. While Newton himself hopefully requires zero introduction, below is a video initiation to Auermann, noteworthy for her "ice maiden visage and pole vaulter's legs": Back to the 90's: Supermodel Nadja Auermann [5:33]- uploaded by Runway Collection2. Part D, first video: Professor Gad Saad refers to assortative mating in evolutionary theory (in essence, birds of a feather flock together), which he describes as "very much the mechanism that drives mate choice".
Cite two specific examples mentioned by him of assortative mating cues that people most assort on and, in one or more sentences for each, describe their effect or how they typically work in practice (as if explaining to someone hearing about the subject for the first time).Three examples:(i) HeightHeterosexual women typically seek men who are taller than they are. Saad refers to a study that looked at something like 720 couples, among which there was but one couple where the woman was taller than the man. Given this general mating preference by women, Saad goes on to explain that once a woman gets to be over a certain height, her options dramatically shrink in terms of acceptable potential suitors. (ii) EducationAccording to Saad, the more educated a woman gets, the worse her marriage prospects. Because, the more sophisticated the woman, the more she insists upon a high-status male. In other words, as a woman becomes increasingly educated, the number of men who are equally or more educated than she is decreases accordingly โ with fewer and fewer men capable of meeting her expectations of a partner. In many cases, serious educational ambition by a woman thus comes with a regrettable tradeoff: the greater likelihood of a life of solitude. (iii) Status exhibited by attireSaad refers to a study using images of men and women. Their attire was manipulated and they were then divided into three sartorial categories, based on the status exhibited by the clothes they wore: (a) high status, (b) medium status, and (c) low status (e.g. a tโshirt or service-industry uniform). Study subjects were shown the images of members of the opposite sex, and asked six questions along the lines of: - Would have coffee with this person?; - Would you go out to dinner with them?; - Would you have sex with them?; and - Would you marry them?Across all six relationship levels, the status of the attire of a man had a profound effect on the likelihood of female subjects responding to the questions with a "Yes": The higher the status, the more likely the women said yes. Contrarily, the status of the attire of a woman had zero effect on the likelihood of male subjects responding to the same questions with a "Yes". ________________ Interested in also winning a collectible postcard? Or, alternatively, a collectible sticker? If so, correctly answer the question and complete the separate task below within the next three days. BONUS QUESTION AND TASK1. Part BThere is an indirect but straightforward connection between one aspect of the song/video featured in Part B of Competition 52 and the hitchhiker street piece that follows, painted circa 2005 in Archway, North London. Please explain the relationship. 2. Part D, second videoI was surprised by how engaging I found Gabrielle Reece's manner and insights during her 2019 chat on Joe Rogan's podcast. Of particular interest to me was the subject she raises, starting at around 11:32: Well, what is success?Take a moment and have a proper think. Next, using a marker, pen or pencil and a piece of paper, write down what success is, or would be, for you personally. Afterwards, date this piece of paper. Then do as you please with it. No sharing required here, only an honour-system confirmation that you've completed the task. The deadline for answering the question and confirming completion of the task is 23:59 UK time on Sunday 11 September. Good luck. The music video for the song Hands Around My Throat by Death in Vegas was shot in 2002. The video features French model and actress Emmanuelle Seigner. Emmanuelle Seigner has been married to Polish film director Roman Polanski since 1989.
In 1968 Roman Polanski married American actress Sharon Tate. Sharon Tate was murdered by The Manson Family in 1969. The Manson Family was a gang led by Charles Manson.
Charles Manson is the person depicted in Banksyโs 2005 piece โHitchhiker to Anywhere Archway'.
Bonus task one (the chance to win a packet of Rowntree Fruit Gums): I accomplished this task. It was actually a lot easier than I thought ๐
Bonus task two (the chance to win a collectable card): I accomplished this task too. I wrote down my thoughts about success and dated the piece of paper.

Recommended Art Books, by kjg on Sept 9, 2022 17:18:46 GMT 1, The newest addition to my artbook collection: 'Our Ideas' by Adam Pendleton. Published by Pace Gallery on the occasion of the exhibition 'Our Ideas' in Pace, London in 2018. A beautiful and very well-executed catalog, with a design by Dutch graphical designer Marc Hollenstein. Hollenstein has been working with Pendleton for years.
Unfortunately I didn't get to visit the exhibition, but luckily I had the chance to buy a signed copy of the book :-)

Which football team do you support?, by kjg on Sept 9, 2022 12:36:19 GMT 1, I am a big supporter of Dutch footballclub FC Twente. They compete in the Eredivisie (Dutch Premier League) and are currently in 5th place (4 won, 1 lost). I am looking forward to their away match against Feyenoord Rotterdam, on the 9th of October :-) A good friend used to play for Twente, Simon Cziommer, not sure if you are familiar with him. This was a couple of years ago but as far as I know he is still sometimes booked as a game analyst on TV whenever dutch teams play against German teams. Ah, very cool! Yes, I know him :-) I saw him play for FCT quite a few times. This was around 20 years ago, if I remember it correctly.

In case no eligible member correctly responds to all questions beforehand, the answers will be posted in four days โ at around 19:00 UK time on Friday 9 September. Answers
1. Part A
(i) What is Hanlon's Razor?
Simply put, Hanlonโs Razor states: โNever attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity.โ It's perceiving every negative response that you get from someone else as an act of malice towards you, rather than that response being the outcome of something totally different and most probably unrelated to you and/or your behaviour.
(ii) In one or two sentences, describe the potential usefulness of applying Hanlon's Razor, especially to online communications and exchanges.
Because online communication is for the largest part non-verbal, applying Hanlonโs Razor is quite useful. For example when someone is rude or reacts curt to your WhatsApp messages, it doesnโt have to be because the recipient doesnโt like you. It could just be that he or she is tired, is having a bad day or just busy with something (or someone) else.
Remember: stop thinking that everything refers to you!
2. Part C
(i) In which institution is this painting housed?
This painting, โPortrait of the Journalist Sylvia von Hardenโ by German painter Otto Dix, is housed in the Musรฉe National d'Art Moderne at the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
(ii) Post a photograph of the real-life person depicted in the painting. [It may be worth taking a bit of time with this one, and not rushing.]

INVADER Rubikcubist Exhibition MIMA, by kjg on Aug 31, 2022 22:15:31 GMT 1, Hey members. Looking for advice. I will be in Belgium in October and would like to visit Invader exhibit @ MIMA. I know they are closed on Monday/Tuesday. Based on experience of those who visited, is there any need to book tickets in advance? Asking since I don't now yest exact date when I will be in Brussels. Any feedback appreciated... I was there on July 1st and I booked a ticket in advance. Although it was only the first week of the show it was fairly quiet at the museum. So the advanced booking wasnโt really necessary.

Invader x Rubiks Cube , by kjg on Aug 28, 2022 15:25:57 GMT 1, As a regular visitor to Belgium I can only confirm that. Country of surrealism and badly maintained motorways :-) Will you go again to Belgium or have you already been there to pick up some Rubik ? Hi Lroy! No, I have been to the exhibition already (on July 1st) and I won't be going again. But if there is a print release, then I will reconsider that :-)

Invader x Rubiks Cube , by kjg on Aug 28, 2022 14:55:25 GMT 1, I can't believe these will not be available online from their store within the next few days. Having it only available there will just cause chaos in their store, plus encourage flipping. That's your opinion because you don't live in Belgium, country of the Surrealism We see so many absurd or unbelievable things happening here, again and again, and nobody cares. We get use to it As a regular visitor to Belgium I can only confirm that. Country of surrealism and badly maintained motorways :-)

INVADER Rubikcubist Exhibition MIMA, by kjg on Aug 3, 2022 10:23:16 GMT 1, Just received the posters but it s not what I what I was expecting at all. Nothing like the one from the mima site.. Oh, that is too bad. What were you expecting and what did you get? The posters that are sold on the website are exactly the same as the ones sold (and displayed) at the museum.

INVADER Rubikcubist Exhibition MIMA, by kjg on Jul 21, 2022 10:08:21 GMT 1, I was at the expo thursday last week and they have plenty of posters in the shop, at 8 euros each. So cheaper than online, plus you can buy singles. Also some nice Maya Hayuk and Boris Tellegen postcards if you take a closer look, and the show flyers that fold out like a poster. Expo itself was pretty empty, so plenty of time to take a look. It's across 4 floors (although a floor only takes 10 to 15 min or so I would say) and you can access the rooftop, which has a new street piece installed. All in all well worth a visit was anyone able to order and ship to nyc. i never could kept saying it didnt ship to my area or region i think Hi! I could order a set for you, put the tube with the posters into a larger tube and send it to you. Please send me a PM if you are interested.

INVADER Rubikcubist Exhibition MIMA, by kjg on Jul 8, 2022 8:42:47 GMT 1, Mine arrived damaged, have emailed MIMA but havenโt heard back. Unnecessary WORDS about delivery and wondering if theyโll reply. Ah, that is too bad.
At Mima, the cafe and the museum shop are in one room. When I had a coffee after seeing the show, I watched the crew. They were processing the orders and packing the posters on the other side of shop. They all looked quite professional and dedicated.

Banksy Copy Che Guevara Print, by kjg on Jul 7, 2022 7:34:06 GMT 1, As part of anyones research on this print I would highly recommend checking out the eBay seller weeaga as it was them that was selling these in batches of 10 back in May 2020 for around ยฃ20. This has already been mentioned on the sellers previous thread. Ah! That is very cool. I have one (or two?) of those, so I don't have to be that careful when I store them :-)
