Various Josh Keyes news, by Coach on Jan 2, 2014 11:04:57 GMT 1, Great work, he said he's going a new direction? So maybe he's dropping the 'urban' theme from his work?
I'm sure that this will be an unpopular point of view, but I don't like this new piece much. Very beautifully painted, no doubt. But to me this is just a painting of an animal in a forest (apart from the leaves on the antlers), and is a little dull. The removal of the "urban edge" or whatever one might call it, takes away the interest for me. Not just the urban settings or the tags, but also the odd settings the animals found themselves in, and the cut off of the scenes, whether it be the grass or the water, is what made his paintings so interesting for me. This I find a little uninteresting. All just my humble opinion, of course. And, as I said, no doubting his huge talent.

Various Josh Keyes news, by jusdeep on Jan 2, 2014 11:31:12 GMT 1, Me also, really don't like this 'new direction' if that's what it is. The anatomical cross sections and playing with refraction of light and image, graffiti, 3D nature was what mad his work stand out. This just looks like any number of competent nature painters out there.

Various Josh Keyes news, by maddoghoek100 on Jan 2, 2014 13:31:23 GMT 1, i very much like the added context from recent works, rather than animals in space or in a tank. I think there is plenty of evidence to suggest the surrealist and urban elements will continue. The chase is one of my absolute favorites. Fingers crossed on a print release of it or getting crazy lucky during the og sale on their being a sketch.

Ascent 14"x11" acrylic on birch panel About the painting:
Many years ago, my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. During that time, it was the small things, visits with friends, laughter, flowers and just moments of peace that allowed her to cope with the fear and uncertainty. Fortunately she made it through. That is what the butterflies represent, the small moments that help elevate and lift your mood and spirit, and signify that you are not alone. It may seem impossible but miraculous things do happen.
