Steve Powers πΊπΈ ESPO β’ New York Street Art β’ New Release, by wimpy on Feb 12, 2010 12:33:10 GMT 1, Your money is all im after....
Did you actually look at the link? He (along with others) personally taking interest in a beat-up city and underprivileged kids in it? And POW wanting to sell a few prints to fund him and his efforts?
Just terrible.

Agreed, a worthy cause and great effort by Steve (typical). I personally love his work and this is a great example.
If anybody has an original of "Everything is sh*t, except you love" they want to sell or trade give me a shout.

Steve Powers πΊπΈ ESPO β’ New York Street Art β’ New Release, by Gentle Mental on Feb 12, 2010 12:53:50 GMT 1, He is a true master. What a wondefully unique style. Too much street art is about frontin or whinin or mockin. He is genuinely sincere and original and thoughtful.

I'll see if there is one at the show tonight if you'd like.

Steve Powers πΊπΈ ESPO β’ New York Street Art β’ New Release, by sand on Feb 12, 2010 12:57:51 GMT 1, People don't like this espo print buy go crazy over another Eine alphabet / numerous other prints Eine has done...it makes no sense to me??!
IMO his 'Love Letter' project in Philly last year was some of the best work on the street in 2009.
This is a very nice and very affordable representation of his big mural work. And also very girlfriend friendly.
POW and Mr Powers should be applauded for making his work so affordable.
A criminally underrated artist on this forum!
I'm not surprised that is hasn't been well received as it seemed as though no one really knew who espo was until his first print release with POW last year!
Somes up this forum for me - people prefer to talk about the value of a Nola print than discuss the art of one of the pioneers of this movement.
For those who don't already know what he was up to last year..check out this site:

What? Graffiti didn't start with Banksy?
I suppose the meaning of my avatar is lost on 99.9% of people, too.
Thank goodness for people like Harvey, gentle, and sands for counterbalancing the previous few replies to this thread.

However, I still feel that the things that make this good...
have been totally lost in this print.

I'm not up in arms about people not wanting to buy the print. That doesn't matter. What got me going was the comments about his motivation.

Steve Powers πΊπΈ ESPO β’ New York Street Art β’ New Release, by wimpy on Feb 12, 2010 13:44:21 GMT 1, For those too lazy to follow the links and check out the whole blog, read this:
"... So once my dad kicks the bricks, I go out and find me a real role model. a stand-up guy thatβs got his head screwed on tight and good data to unselfishly share with me, for nothing more than the paint I would supply for the lesson. Suroc, aka Nick-E-Dee, aka Falcon. pka Buford Youthword, a standup guy from Avondale street, showed me the ways and means of making a name for yourself. We painted this rooftop in 1989, well into my 5th year of marking surfaces, and 2 years after I painted my first rooftop on Market Street, a building Suroc took me to paint. The rooftops were the perfect location for work. Largely forgotten spaces on the tops of buildings that youth would climb and put their personalities on display for the passing trains and the pasengers who passed their commute looking at the names that encapsulated those personalities; RAZZ, ESTRO, MR BLINT, CREDIT, CLYDE, RAN and MANIAC to mention a few. Suroc and I spoke our piece alongside those guys and added to the visual cocaphony that was Market Street in the 80βs.
One day in the mid-90βs it all got buffed brown. Nobody remembers when exactly, but it happened, efficiently, completely permanently. I find it interesting that no one noticed that a hundred full color walls suddenly went brown. That was always the problem with graffiti, for all itβs efforts to communicate, most people donβt understand it and if people donβt understand, they donβt take ownership, and your name gets taken down like a campaign poster in December. In our fame-addled America itβs easy to understand the motivation to write your name, a lot harder to appreciate the unreadable result. If you did make your name easy to process, you leave your audience cold after the 10th time theyβve seen your name, never mind the 100th or the 1000th. βI get it, youβre everywhere except the electric chair, (shout out to JS), but I donβt care.β So in creating Love Letter, thinking about the medium of marking that made me the artist I am today, thinking about the amazing West Philadelphia that gave me the inspiration to do it, and finally the commuters that ride the train, Iβm looking to make colors and words happen on these rooftops and walls in a way that people will take ownership of the work. So if the buffman comes back around, people will shout him down."
Some of the signs they did to freshen up local businesses and teach kids the craft:

Steve Powers πΊπΈ ESPO β’ New York Street Art β’ New Release, by wimpy on Feb 12, 2010 14:43:53 GMT 1, I don't know if POWs specifically are going to charity. Never said that. I do know that Stephen Powers puts a ridiculous amount of time into his projects. What I'm saying is that anything that benefits Powers benefits what he has done for graffiti and for Philadelphia.
Again, people can hate the print all they want.

Love the Powers work/philosophy. I remember seeing that "If you were here Id be home" wall before, didn't put it together that it was Powers until just now.
Thanks for the links/pictures.

The trains were nuts because you couldn't park anywhere downtown. What a mess. So... for those who PM'd me, I'll def get there before the 28th and post pics and get you the other info you asked for.
Both "tours" for this valentines weekend on the EL have sold out.

And, yeah, the black is as awesome as they claimed and makes the image. Will try to get it flattened out a bit and grab pics.
