Katrin Fridriks 🇮🇸 Reykjavík, Iceland • Abstract Art , by tobaum on Jan 10, 2012 8:55:16 GMT 1, I absolutely love her work. It is very powerful, very textured, full of good energy. It makes me happy when I look at one of her painting. Which is quite often as I cannot stop staring at my crayon since I purchase it. Also I think her work is quite refreshing and completes very well my collection. She's very wallfriendly, visitors always look closely at the painting and like it.

Katrin Fridriks 🇮🇸 Reykjavík, Iceland • Abstract Art , by Cedric Mnich on Jan 10, 2012 9:28:03 GMT 1, Seen some of her works at Galerie LeFeuvre in Paris. Stunning. Was pleasantly surprised by the prices (some works were in the 2 or 2.5KEUR) though far over my budget. What was the price for crayons (by PM if you don't want to disclose that publicly) ?

Don't get me wrong, I do think her work is visually and technically very appealing and I can definitely see the wider appeal. I have seen many of her pieces at art fairs and in galleries and met her on a couple of occasions, just doesn't do much for me. Horses for courses.

For those based outside of the UK, Lefeuvre gallery in Paris: www.galerielefeuvre.com/ And Circle Culture Berlin: circleculture-gallery.com/ might be good options.
Mine was bought at Lefeuvre.
Regarding the crayons, there are several sizes, ballpark is +/- £ 3k.

Imo she's not overpriced. Her cv is already nice: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katrin_Fridriks
I can understand saying an artist is overpriced, for example Charming Baker (basicly no cv and very very high prices), but about Fridriks? She is affordable and imo correctly priced.
Forgot to mention, she's also represented by Vicky David NY: www.vickydavid.com/

It's an interesting question, what prices should artists be charging at certain points in their careers? I see a lot of work I think is overpriced for where the artists are at the moment. But I'm no gallerist, so what do I know.
I also agree with Tobaum, as she has shown all over the world and with some quite prestigious galleries too.

Katrin Fridriks 🇮🇸 Reykjavík, Iceland • Abstract Art , by pezlow on Jan 11, 2012 20:46:29 GMT 1, Maybe tobaum/remi. I guess only time will tell. Prices for her work are up there though with some of the uk's most well established abstract artists. Buy an Albert Irvin or a fridriks? Guess it depends what you prefer. Hell you could even get a small terry frost original for the same price as a fridriks.

Just saying that for the price of a fridriks there is a lot of other stuff out there. I do really like her work though, and that's what really matters. You don't need to own to enjoy

Katrin Fridriks 🇮🇸 Reykjavík, Iceland • Abstract Art , by Shoeless on Jan 11, 2012 23:34:14 GMT 1, I'm going to to compare her stuff to Pollock's (which may or may not be fair, but hear me out). What I like about both their work is that you can see the energy and force behind the work, as if the act of creating it is the art itself. I do quite like her crayons pieces, probably too dear for my budget, but I like the energy, the "splash," the artist's actual hand doing the work, whatever you want to call it.
My thinking as well. I would love to pick one up, but the pricing has me put off. Looking forward to what you acquire though!!!

I'm scared to ask a price when there not quoted. Judging by auction results I'll pass. Some look fantastic, others just do nothing for me.

Katrin Fridriks 🇮🇸 Reykjavík, Iceland • Abstract Art , by Phear Loathing on Jan 12, 2012 7:32:36 GMT 1, Maybe I should just stick with Jago...
In the end I realize I could almost have an entire wall covered in Jago for the price of a smallish KF.
I think this thread has made me at least realize one thing..... I am going to wait another 6 months and see if I still feel the same about Fridrks work. I have been admiring for 6 months or so, but more time won't kill me.
Again, thanks for everyone's participation. It's been valuable.
