Gold Ornate Frames, by Standard on Feb 2, 2009 11:02:20 GMT 1, I thought I would post this up as a few people have asked for their details now.
They seem a very good supplier at very reasonable rates and can make them in any size, and different colours, plus good delivery.
www.ornategiltmirrors.co.uk/html/frames.htm
To give you an idea on price, a 2 1/2 inch classical swept in black gloss for 440x770mm is approximately ยฃ110 delivered.

Gold Ornate Frames, by Replete on Feb 15, 2009 14:56:30 GMT 1, another good tip is go to a household or clearance auction (go to the viewing first) as you can pick up all sorts of good stuff for pennies or a few pounds.

Gold Ornate Frames, by Ruggs on Feb 15, 2009 18:21:19 GMT 1, I rummage around antique shops, car boot sales and junk shops. Auctions are always good places to find frames too. I'm also lucky to have a antique frame dealer on my doorstep. He's always keen to do me a good deal, although he can't believe I use the frames for modern prints. I have a few now with a view to use them one day. Used one recently for my Jamie Reid handbill. Got another rare Reid print that I would like to frame with an old find. His stuff really suits old frames.

Sure I get the irony of it but 90% of the time I see it on here it looks bad imo. If you have a nice Banksy print you should take it to John Jones and have it floated in the frame.

Gold Ornate Frames, by mred on Mar 3, 2010 21:03:02 GMT 1, I was in the market before Christmas for a large ornate frame, have had to put on hold for awhile because of Christmas and a couple of post Christmas art buying lapses.
Steve at Frontier research it for me, because the print I had was a non standard size meant were forced to go made to measure. Steve found an amazing company, name of which slips me at present, they did all the fake frames for the Da Vinci code. If you have standard size there are apparently off the shelve ones which are a lot cheaper. My recommendation would be for you to drop him a line via Frontier Framing website or forum although not sure his user name although has frontier in it.
Sorry for the less than helpful advice, minds elsewhere

Gold Ornate Frames, by F*X on Mar 3, 2010 21:10:44 GMT 1, I had been looking for an ornate frame for my NBG since its collection. Although Ornate frames seem relatively easy to source, Fleebay ornate mirrors is a good place to start. It is very difficult to find anything of the correct size to allow for even borders around the image. Therefore I have commissioned Gary Mr Frameman to produce a bespoke frame which allows you to choose the type / number of swept corners and swags required together with the overall finish. I would give him a ring to see what he can do for you

Gold Ornate Frames, by Ruggs on Mar 3, 2010 21:56:14 GMT 1, I find mine at antique and bric-a-brac shops and car boot sales. I've amassed a few which I hope to use eventually. My Jamie Reid picture frame cost a fiver and another twenty quid by my local framer. Worth doing I reckon.

We're pretty backward as far as framing goes in the UK if you ask me.
