Slinkachu - Scars, by wentos on Nov 11, 2011 12:15:15 GMT 1, I love Slinks work and am lucky enough to own three bits...but I really don't think this works, find it a tad in bad taste. Obviously no harm meant by him as a link to donate to the Poppy Appeal on his blog.

One could argue that the celebration of people killing others is bad taste.

Slinkachu - Scars, by wentos on Nov 11, 2011 12:52:40 GMT 1, I wouldn't call it disgusting, and I have no doubt that Slink meant no harm or disrespect at all, far from it I'm sure. I just personally don't think it works.
I think that sticking a pin through the body, of what appears to be a war veteran, and then plonking him on a statue of Sir Arthur Harris outside St-Clement Danes Church might also cause offence to anyone paying their respects...not everyone is aware of his work.

Slinkachu - Scars, by chaturz on Nov 11, 2011 12:54:35 GMT 1, I love it, and (currently) he's not looking to profit from it. I would only call it bad taste if you're selling this at an inflated price and therefore profiting from a tragedy. But I feel he's using art to remind us of a significant historical event and therefore reminding us to remember and give to the charity.
Just my humble opinion

Slinkachu - Scars, by sand on Nov 11, 2011 13:28:08 GMT 1, What's so offensive about it? If anything it's a tribute.
It's not like he's selling it for personal gain.
My interpretation of the piece is that - still after all these years, the loss of life still hurts - thus the pin going through the figure. It's still very much part of the public conscious and the ultimate sacrifice so many made will never be forgotten. Hence the poppy is 'stuck' to the figure.

Slinkachu - Scars, by wentos on Nov 11, 2011 14:06:19 GMT 1, I completely agree that along with the quote from his blog it is a good piece and well thought out. I just think that as with all his other pieces, if its left in the street for somebody to find, then that's posssibly not the best idea.
Plus, I also love deputydawgs post...I'm nicking that.

honestly didnt even know you could get a white poppy, But i agree theres nothing offensive about wearing one. Although i know people can and do feel strongly when war etc is bought up, which is understandable. Personally id rather see no fighting but such is the way of our world , there will always be war .

Slinkachu - Scars, by Deleted on Nov 11, 2011 21:21:34 GMT 1, I really don't see how this is in bad taste, how can anything by any well known artist who expresses themselves with specific intent to donate to the appeal be in bad taste?
The glorification of war is bad taste and this isn't it - about time society sat down with the current and previous military personnel and realised how fucking lucky they are.
