Framing Penny, by ooseuri on Nov 4, 2011 10:15:12 GMT 1, Hi. I just took my Penny dollar stencils to my framer. We talked about different kind of ideas, but I'm still not sure what would be the best way.
Has anyone photos of framed works of Penny? I remember seeing one or two here, and would appreciate any links or photos.

Not seen a Lexine on a $10 note before, looks nice along side the Thumbelina, also see you have number 2 of the 3 $10 Thumbelinas, wondering if number 3 is also owned by a forum member

I confirm my Lexine (on $10) is a 1/1 and the Thumbelina is 3/3 ;-)

The thinking was old note = old style frame. Something ornate to draw you to it but a wide enough mount not to detract from the image itself.

Much respect to Warmgun for an excellent deal on the note. Top Man.

Framing Penny, by ooseuri on Nov 7, 2011 9:13:02 GMT 1, Thanks! I talked with my framer about letting them float inside the frame, maybe attaching them on the frames by corners. Let's see. Will post a photo, when done.

Framing Penny, by forbiddenlove on Nov 7, 2011 13:36:12 GMT 1, frame between two mounts, just covering the minimum of the edge, this way its wedged between. you find a frame that can work both sides and unscrew and re screw to the otherside when you wanna change. or you just pick any frame and do the same with the mounts but when you wanna have a look at the other side you take it off the wall and just turn it around..
hope that made sense.

Framing Penny, by swabie2424 on May 20, 2012 22:30:17 GMT 1, Hey guys, I really need some advice about framing these notes. I have the Abe's Babes trio and am flirting with having a custom acrylic display made for them. I talked to a guy here in Los Angeles who does this, and he's thinking it would be three pieces. A 1/4 inch top piece that will be UV coated so they don't fade, a 1/2 inch back piece and then a 1/16 piece in between with three bill sized holes cut into the acrylic so the notes "fit" in each cut out and won't move. All three pieces held together by 4 or 6 posts that will allow everything to fit together nicely and look like one finished block. It will be thick enough where I could simply stand the display on its side. My wall space is filling fast, so this is ideal. I can display these on my mantle, desk etc and save wall space.
I know in the past there has been some discussion about using acrylic. Is it archival? Is there such a thing as archival acrylic? Don't all the big money grading companies put bills in acrylic holders? Is there a huge risk about doing what I've planned? What are my alternatives?
I really, really want to do what is the best for the notes, but I also want a display where I can see both sides of the notes and not have it be a traditional "frame".
I welcome any /all thoughts.

What you are proposing is exactly the same as the ones I have that were framed by Mr Framer Man. I would say go for it they look ace

Framing Penny, by dappy on May 20, 2012 23:50:49 GMT 1, If you do a bit of research I think you will find that acrylic/perspex is UV resistant anyway ~96+% - no need to add another UV coating ...
have a look at the show thread and see how antome framed his three notes together in a lovely gold frame. I think it depends on the style you are after.
#Gibbon - that is more than ace

Framing Penny, by swabie2424 on May 21, 2012 0:53:57 GMT 1, Thank you both for your insights. It's amazing how what I'm doing is so similar to gibby, and I'm halfway around the world and had never seen his piece before. I'll be sure to post pictures when my piece is done. It's going to be in the ballpark of gibby's as that is what I'm after. Mine might have metal posts on the corners....
Seems like the acrylic shouldn't harm the pieces and will protect them well.

Framing Penny, by sanchorockin78 on May 21, 2012 9:42:18 GMT 1, Some great Ideas here, collecting mine from the gallery this week and a 'Mind Wander's should be delivered too. Not sure how to frame them but there are some good starting points here that do not detract from the piece. Still loving Atomone's frame job
Things have moved on since my last post. Penny's framed and on the walls. Thanks for all the comments on the framing..

Framing Penny, by kchay on Oct 3, 2014 21:47:59 GMT 1, Does anyone have issues with the edge curling on the larger works?
I have the large version of Cloud 1 and the lower right corner has really move since it's been in the frame. Professional float mount with Tru view glass.
Was curious if anyone else has had this issue.

Was curious if anyone else has had this issue. My Cloud 1 is fine. I think all of mine are floated and many of my smaller pieces are curling at the bottom and every couple of months I have to open them and flatten them. It has mostly to do with the fact that US currency is cotton... it isnt paper and humidity is a bitch.
