Inside Art Collectors Homes, by kuni on Nov 6, 2020 15:01:10 GMT 1, Shotguns in a safe and a money counting machine on top? Most people don't have money counting machines at home unless they are doing something illegal. People which have Rifles and Money Counting Machines are criminals. And if they have a big house with pool and employees? They are from the Mafia right? What comes next? 😂 That looks like a real boss sitting on that sofa.
Gorgeous house btw. Would love to see more photos of it.

Thank you very much! Still not finished. Renovation is ongoing. As soon as everything is finished and all the Art proper hanged I will upload a couple pictures.

Inside Art Collectors Homes, by tarquin73 on Nov 14, 2020 16:25:26 GMT 1, Hello forum members. I hope everyone is keeping well? I need some advice on how and where to hang artwork on the hall/stairs at our new house. Lots of wall space but not sure where to start. First piece is a fairly large D*Face, where would you hang it?

The country dwellers in rural Ireland must by law have a minimum 6 bedrooms plus a good sitting room that no one ever uses. A front door that is really the back door, as no one is allowed to go through the front door. Finally, a few acres of land to mow when the weather is nice. So they really live in the equivalent of 3 houses rolled into one. Think of all the Peckham rocks and Stiks filling up the spare rooms.
Meanwhile the townies live in a shoe box lol.

Definitely a lovely looking home and I’m another person who’s keen to see more of it when you’re happy to share. I wish you many years of happiness in your dream home.

I wish you many years of happiness in your dream home. thank you! We went from a 1300 to 4800 SF house so it’s going to be a long time before we have it fully furnished and property decked out. So many to do’s on the list it’s going to be a multi year project. I’m more of a quality over quality so I’d rather buy 1 really well made piece of furniture than 4 that won’t last. But it’s all good, I enjoy the hell out of it. I feel extremely blessed.
I’m seriously open to any suggestions on where and how to hang the art. I’m in somewhat uncharted territory here.
I’ll post a few more rooms once they’re sorted.

Inside Art Collectors Homes, by kuni on Nov 23, 2020 14:57:41 GMT 1, Thanks for the suggestions. I originally aligned the two works on paper with the moulding and seemed way too high up so I opted for centering them between the moulding on top and bottom. I just seemed weird to have them so far above eye level. High ceilings present something of a challenge. Looking back at them, the still life next to the front door should probably be raised to that it's at least centered between the top of the door and the moulding below.
As for the welcome mat, I also originally hung it centered between the moulding, stood back from it and it felt too high. Sort of a battle between top of moulding and being too far above eye level.
Easy enough to rehang a few inches up or down though, maybe I'll adjust and post some additional pics. Regardless, I appreciate the suggestions and am curious what others with high ceilings do.

I do have both picture rails and dado rails and they can sometimes help to centre stuff on the massive walls!

I do have both picture rails and dado rails and they can sometimes help to centre stuff on the massive walls! First off, amazing art on your walls. I can only imagine what's lurking some of those other rooms. That Parra canvas is a dream. Gorgeous. Who's the artist of those matching canvases in the photo above the Parra?
I see that you're also dealing with high ceilings and crown/beaded molding throughout the house, as well as chair and picture rails. The picture rails are a nice feature and can help provide alignment guardrails. I think my biggest takeaway from your post is the idea of a "nice same width border round the bottom if it's a big piece" as this makes a lot of sense.
Oddly, I probably would have lowered the Parra canvas ~4" - it seems slightly high to me, but you obviously know what you're doing.
I'll make a few adjustments this weekend and post updated pics. Worst case scenario I don't like how it looks and I revert back to how they are now.
Here are a few more shots of my place - I've got this massively long hallway to work with presents a lot of opportunity.
Will update the thread when I make some adjustments.

Yeah, that place is unreal, as is his collection. I'd be tempted to put a basketball half-court in the main hall, but otherwise... perfect. Saw it on The Modern House - the link is in the article, but here, many more pics; www.themodernhouse.com/sales-list/the-compound/
