SWAP MY 21ST CENTURY LOVE '3/95' FOR YOUR BANKSY, by Jamesy Wamesy on Jun 18, 2007 15:09:34 GMT 1, There has not been a 21st Century Love on ebay for sometime, and if you look at how the prices of other Micallefs have jumped then I think if one popped up ebay now it would outstrip a Morons by a fair old bit.... Don't remember one going for £3300, think it was a Deluxe actually...
Lieberman Gallery has one for £9000, now I know that is gallery prices but no Morons are going for that price from any Gallery I have seen...

SWAP MY 21ST CENTURY LOVE '3/95' FOR YOUR BANKSY, by Strange Al on Jun 18, 2007 15:20:13 GMT 1, I'd have to agree with James on value. I think in the current market a 21st Century Love would definitely outperform a Sepia Morons. Mic prices have literally almost doubled over night - a JD went for £1.1K in the last couple of days and in May you could still pick one up for around £700. 21st Century Love is probably Mic's most popular image and from a relatively small edition.

Don't blame you. I actually think the values of both are obscene - that's not to say I don't think the current market can bear the price.

SWAP MY 21ST CENTURY LOVE '3/95' FOR YOUR BANKSY, by Winter on Jun 18, 2007 20:59:33 GMT 1, I love Banksy and Micallef. I reckon Micallef's prices are going to cool. There seems to be a bit of panic buying at the moment, I have no doubt Sotheby's will only add to this. It really comes down to which print you prefer but if it's investment you want as well for the long term. It's signed Banksy.

.. I don't think there will be any cooling of Micallef prices anytime soon .. we witness the same thing what happened to Banksy about a year ago and a bit more as there are no unsigned prints from Micallef ..
.. I wish I was wrong ..

No cooling any time soon for Micallef. This is just the beginning of a monster run-up....
unfortunate, there were still a couple more Eyestorm's that I wanted.....oh well...

I don't disagree with you about Banksy's long term value, but I have to disagree about Micallef. Can't see his prices cooling for a while yet. He's got some major shows coming up which by tradition should keep prices on the up. I wouldn't wait around to buy his work as I believe it will be considerably more expensive by the end of the year.

SWAP MY 21ST CENTURY LOVE '3/95' FOR YOUR BANKSY, by justinkase on Jun 19, 2007 5:53:28 GMT 1, It's a very exciting time for Ant. The impressive results from the Sothebys auction are a pretty good indicator that there won't be any cooling off period. I think that's ridiculous. The only place he's going is up. Watch what happens after the LA show. Might be a good time to pick up one of the prints from Laz...if they're still available.

SWAP MY 21ST CENTURY LOVE '3/95' FOR YOUR BANKSY, by bobbymeachamjr on Jun 19, 2007 15:34:47 GMT 1, Within galleries and auction houses, there is a huge buzz building about Micallef. Why do you think that a Micallef piece was chosen for the cover of the Sotheby's catalogue? The large auction houses are predicting that Micallef will catch up with (and remain) alongside Banksy as one of the UK's most successful artists within a very short space of time.
Helloooooo? Predicting? LOL Sothebys and related CONTROL the market. Predict lol. Please remember - in times of $$$ frenzy its the common folk who get hurt...

SWAP MY 21ST CENTURY LOVE '3/95' FOR YOUR BANKSY, by sausageboonwee on Jun 19, 2007 16:23:34 GMT 1, Oh the hype of it all! I own quite a few Micallefs and there is a huge amount of hype around - particularly by those of you trying to push prices up. Micallef is having his moment and he is a good artist. Spend over £1.2k on a JD at your peril, that's all I'm saying.

SWAP MY 21ST CENTURY LOVE '3/95' FOR YOUR BANKSY, by wildbill on Jun 19, 2007 16:29:12 GMT 1, too much hype and pressure can backfire just as quickly and prices could plummet. a steady gradual increase would be much better if it is value that you are worrying about

SWAP MY 21ST CENTURY LOVE '3/95' FOR YOUR BANKSY, by slowmo on Jun 19, 2007 16:41:16 GMT 1, What hype? Micallef demand is high and the only available works are prints for £4700 for an edition of 50. You can buy an original from him for £7K! The price is rising in line with demand. I went to the exeter exhibition featuring three originals and most of his prints. They are amazing and I am very jealous of those who knew his work pre LAZ show.
Simply demand is high and there is no supply to fit lower budgets. This is pushing up the price of the large edition Judgement day as its probably the only option left to someone wanting to get a micallef, who doesn't have thousands of pounds sitting around. There is no guarantee that POW will produce anymore and if the prints sell out at LAZ, why would they ever sell them any cheaper again?
Well done to those who bought early, I suspect the chance of ever buying another Micallef for less than a grand will be over shortly (unless POW produce more).
PS - I only own a Judgement day, which I am not selling, so have no interest in hyping prices.

SWAP MY 21ST CENTURY LOVE '3/95' FOR YOUR BANKSY, by stuey09 on Jun 19, 2007 16:51:39 GMT 1, Very well argued Slowmo. I would also add that when Laz's editions of 50 prints sell out, then I 'd expect to see a couple crop up on ebay for 5k+. This could have a further knock on effect on those prints such as JD and make them that bit more expensive.
