A painting of David Bowie I did for a little fun. It isn't exactly how I wanted it to turn out but I am still in the learning phase (although I like some bits of it, some of the textured bits of paint etc).




It got sent to an exhibition in Birmingham where items are being auctioned off on ebay (under the username : Drawing Dave). I don't have anything to do with the exhibition or auction other than that one of my pieces was given to it. There is some quite cool originals on there though and I am sure a lot will go for very reasonable prices. The auction says collection only but the organiser (Dan Genders) stated if people request postage costs then he will look at posting items as long as buyer covers costs (it is for charity after all).

I'm such an street art enthusiast that I tried to stencil myself. First lesson: not as easy as it looks :-)
I'm a fan of stripped-down images with a message. For me as a beginner it was also important to pick an easy image. Therefore my project title was: create an easy and stripped-down stencil peace with a message... This is the final version (after 3 month :-)

When is an amateur artist not an amateur artist?

There are some artists in this thread with serious artistic skills - Artistic skills of a level that indicate that these artists are not in fact amateur.

So when is an amateur artist not an amateur anymore?

It cannot necessarily be based on skill set.

Is it the ability to move beyond being the weekend painter, and have work in galleries, to produce commercially? To be able to put on shows, to be able to have work framed on mass so that it can be displayed?

I would be interested to hear what others think.

Not at the moment. For now these larger ones are printouts and the smaller ones silkscreens. Just working out which images work best before deciding on ones to make stencils from...

I've been doing street work of a below average standard for years but recently have returned to drawing and have been getting good feedback off people, so see what you think.
