Show us Your own Artwork ๐จ, by met on Feb 14, 2016 7:06:26 GMT 1, 10 layer stencil using MTN94 spraypaint on 80x80cm canvas Original photo of Natalia Vodianova by Paolo Roversi
While appreciating the significant labour that went into this piece, I dislike the end result. It's largely due to my detesting (and I choose the word carefully) the aesthetic that comes from the 'Posterize' command in Photoshop or similar software for multilayered stencils.
What interests me a great deal, however, is your choice of photographer. I've always found Paolo Roversi's work both interesting and technically exceptional. Not only does he have a number of different styles, but all of them are also recognisable as his own.
No doubt you're aware of the background to your source image. For the benefit of other members, it is one of a series of photographs of Vodianova โ shot in Paris in 2003 for Nicole Wisniak's magazine, Egoรฏste, yet only released when the next issue (Nยฐ15) came out in 2006. This was a couple of years after the French publication lost perhaps its two most noteworthy photographic contributors, Helmut Newton and Richard Avedon, both of whom died in 2004.
If anyone isn't familiar, Egoรฏste is exceptional in its own right โ a proper ars gratia artis expensive and cultish magazine unencumbered by deadline constraints. It comes out every few years when it's good and ready. Even the ads are conceived and executed by Wisniak. If a company wants to advertise, it hands over cash on the understanding she has free rein (and even free reign) to do as she pleases. What a beautiful and enviable position to be in.
Here are a couple of old articles about the magazine (2011 and 2006) if members wish to read further:

PS! This Stencil is not made by the Posterize command, but every layer is made separate manually :-)

Show us Your own Artwork ๐จ, by bza on Feb 15, 2016 22:34:44 GMT 1, I've been painting for a few years as a way to disconnect from the electronics every once in a while, try to be a bit creative and connect with the local arts community a bit. Honestly though, when I get really into it i tend to start binge watching TV series.
I've been working on some robot characters in acrylic. This was from the last group show:
And a few close ups:

Show us Your own Artwork ๐จ, by Deleted on Mar 4, 2016 15:30:29 GMT 1, Afternoon all, hope everyone is well, just thought I would post my latest painting. Still drying on the easel and possibly still some minor touches to finish it but I think it's about there. (colours might be slightly off due the lighting in my room).
"Superare la sofferenza" Acrylic on a piece of salvaged plywood, 48 x 36 inch.
A close up shot, for many reasons I have always loved using an impasto technique, as well as looking at the texture and flow of the paint I love to be able to feel the surface of the painting when it is finished and dried, I like to think that others do the same as we seem to have this this misconception that we shouldn't feel or touch a painting.
As always, thank's for looking
