Arkiv Vilmansa 🇮🇩 Indonesia • Cartoon Characters , by Deleted on Jul 22, 2011 13:05:40 GMT 1, Hey Arkiv. Love your work. Marvin the Martian was a favourite of mine as a kid - still is! Some of my favourite art is stuff that references my other favourite things. I have one of your Marvin the Martian prints which checked that box perfectly Looking forward to seeing your new works for the exhibition and the progression of your style. I'd love one of your originals, but they're a tad pricey for me Are there going to be new prints for us poorer souls? Hope so!! Good luck with the exhibition either way -

Arkiv Vilmansa 🇮🇩 Indonesia • Cartoon Characters , by Arkiv on Jan 20, 2012 15:57:43 GMT 1, Hellooo
I'd like to share my last exhibition in manila entitled "Relics". Hope you like it!
"RELICS"
"This exhibition marks the artist exploring the felt abstraction of memory, trying to capture the spirit of the Phillipines as he remembers it, rather than representing it figuratively. These works communicate the retained fragments of times past, that are now returning - as relics – to the present. Memory is inaccurate and prejudiced, but they bestow depth to experiences and make them unique. These paintings do not directly show us coastal lines, palm trees and the turquoise sea of the tropics, but the experience of these phenomena as they are preserved in the artist’s memory. His unique, curvaceous lines and luscious colours dance elegantly on these canvases as if to a graceful rythm. A rhythm we cannot hear, but feel. Memory is a wild terrain, where one could so easily lose their way. This exhibition marks Vilmansa’s way of taming the wilderness, to make sense of his memories, in order to share that experience with others."
Mitha Budhyarto Jakarta, 29 November 2011
"BECAUSE OF THE TIMES"
While the colours used in these paintings symbolize the flag of Phillipines, the horizontal curves that flow across the canvas represent what the artist feels is the pulsation of Manila itself. The powerful thrust from the bottom left corner suggest a movement leftwards, where all the lines all seem to meet and create a sense of balance to the composition.
80 x 90 cm Acrylic and Ink on Canvas 2011
"BRIGHTENED HEART"
Boracay Beach left a distinct impression on the artist. The cool light turquoise background in this painting beckons the viewer to imagine the freshness of the tropical seaside air in December. The way the space within the painting is arranged invite our eyes to begin looking from the top, following the red and pink curves as they playfully flow down to the right of the canvas.
80 x 90 cm Acrylic and Ink on Canvas 2011
"FOUND THAT SOUL"
This painting captures the essence of a very specific time of the day, as the sun sets in the very late afternoon. It depicts how the golden rays of the sun turn into a rich, deep amber, marking the final moments of the day.
80 x 90 cm Acrylic and Ink on Canvas 2011
"PARADISE"
Illustrating a minor detail that one would so readily overlook - the purple flower decoration in a drink that was served in a hotel – Paradise exemplifies Vilmansa’s interest in exploring the small details of everyday life.
80 x 90 cm Acrylic and Ink on Canvas 2011
"BLACK MOON"
It’s always fascinating to discover how inspiration metamorphoses into an artwork. In this case it is the memory of returning to the shore at night, after a boat trip. The darkness of the sea at dusk as it catches the beam of red light from the lamp in the boat. The perspective gained from Vilmansa lying on his back that gave him the sight of the corner of the boat. Fragments retained in memory, metamorphosing into Black Moon.
80 x 90 cm Acrylic and Ink on Canvas 2011
"DREAMED OF"
It is impossible to look at Vilmansa’s paintings and not begin to imagine what each colour and line may mean. Here, there is a languid tranquillity to the various shade of turquoise used, and the feather-like curves seem to sway gently as if they were leaves brushed by a mild breeze. The title further points to an ethereal quality that the work aims to convey.
80 x 90 cm Acrylic and Ink on Canvas 2011
"UNDER THE MOON LIGHT"
In the works exhibited here, the experience of being in Boracay beach is caught in snippets. Under the Moon Light tells us of the artist’s memory of catching sight of a bird flying at night while sitting on the coast. Here, only parts of its wings are rendered visible to the viewer.
80 x 90 cm Acrylic and Ink on Canvas 2011
"SOMEWHERE ELSE"
This painting stands out in the current collection because of its apparent restless energy. Floods of blazing orange curves that dominate the canvas pivot around the yellow circular shape. The subdued, pinkish white background creates a soothing contrast to the gleaming tonality of the composition.
80 x 90 cm Acrylic and Ink on Canvas 2011
"SPIRALLING"
At once delicate and frisky, the different shades of pink seem to insinuate a distinct femininity. The effect that grey has is that it cools the composition, adding a reflective mood to the work.
80 x 90 cm Acrylic and Ink on Canvas 2011
"AN EYE FOR AN EYE"
As Vilmansa observes, Boracay beach puts on a different face at night. Through the use of colours, he depicts the different sensations felt by being there as dusk falls, to those felt during the day. Gone are the yellows and turquoise that characterise daytime, as they are replaced by smoky greys, reds and the unexpected streaks of purple and blue that symbolise Boracay evenings.
80 x 90 cm Acrylic and Ink on Canvas 2011
The opening night @ VinylOnVinyl Gallery, Makati, Manila - Philippines! 16th December 2011!
It was a great opening, Thanks to VOV Crew for making such a great show!!
