Not so much art, but make sure you go to Sai Kung and get down to the harbour... the boats come in and you can pick your still live fish, take them to the restaurants over the road in water filled bags and they'll cook them for you, all ultra cheap too... grouper with garlic and chilli and a huge lobster...mmm

Also try the Jumbo floating restaurant, and if you can go for a traditional Chinese dim-sum lunch... some great places on the Kowloon side, but you'll be best getting someone to take you as otherwise god knows what you'll order ;D

The best thing I can suggest is going in search of the Michael Lau shop, buying some of his vinyl dolls, and watching sunset / lights in a cool bar.

(19th June, 2009, Hong Kong) -- apostrophe gallery / The Design Department / Signature Communications invites visitors to experience CCTV is an installation curated by May Wong and will showcase the innovations of 5 young and accomplished street artists from the U.S. and Italy. Apostrophe Gallery chooses international and emerging artists, creating exhibitions inspired by music, design, politics and the urban environment.

Taking the street art into the perimeter of a 900 sq. ft. recently abandoned office space, expect to see collaborative wall paintings as well as original work pushing the limits with collage, wheat pasting and more. CCTV is a mysterious installation armed with surveillance cameras implying the notions of voyeurism, invasion of privacy, and catching criminals. From the vicolo of Milan to the urban chasms of Austin, TX., juxtaposed against a conventional idyll of Central's polished cityscape, catch a fleeting glimpse of these eerie and fantastical crooks, creatures and characters comes to life.

The artists in this exhibition share a poetic and whimsical visual language in their gallery work communicating with urbanites to maintain a connection to humanity through “character design” – the use of imaginative characters as a means to illustrate emotions and stories.

I've been out of this scene for more than perhaps I would have liked and miss this place (sometimes
I'm in Hong Kong until 11th Dec and wondered if anyone could recommend anything to see whilst I'm here. Any decent contemporary art galleries? Decent graf seems unlikely here, as it probably wouldn't last longer than 5 minutes but please let me know if you know of anything you think I need to see.

with this pass you can go to the VIP LOUNGE, with free food and dring, private guided tour, art HK diner, etc

Plenty of galleries in hong kong. Drop me a pm and will get you a map depending on what you want but main area is Central on Hong Kong island. I know of no vinyl shops but never looked as I have tons boxed upnhere space very expensive but will find out if any there probably may be one or two I guess.

Vinyl toy shops pm me a better description and will try and find out for you. If what I think should be quite a lot.

Spend a day up in Soho on the hill, plenty of galleries in that area, good bars and restaurants too.

Yes it's all in an area called central. Hollywood Rd area (soho) as mentioned. There you have Schoeni there are two of these galleries in the area they do some really nice stuff including Adam Neate. Opera gallery is near by.

But get a Timeout it has all the galleries and what's going on. Some cracking Chinese art around.

Visited this show today in Hong Kong quite weird as it was on 3 floors of the Marriot Hotel with the exhibitors/galleries occupying the bedrooms to display the work.

so not a great way to display. The big HK galleries were other there nor the big internationals. So HK mid, Chinese and a fair few Korean and a few Europeans but around 75 in all.

Through a HK g allergy Kusama was about the biggest name to have whole room.
