And something from the archives.Β For at least the last six years, old-school writer Turroe has been the first to get-up in the New Year.Β Unfortunately I was too slow this year and someone painted over his piece but here is his piece with Tes and Shade1 from New Years Day 2010:

And something from the archives. I do like the little, unassuming stencils which pop up around Bristol. These little snails are from 2004; there used to be loads of then crawling alone the bottom of walls but now there's just a couple left around town. I think the economy of their design is fantastic.

Visit BRISTOL π¬π§ Street Art, Galleries, Events, by Feral Things on Feb 9, 2014 14:53:20 GMT 1, Rowdy - For the benefit of anyone who doesn't get the very Bristol-specific references here, Chris is the name which has been given to the crocodile which has supposedly been spotted in the River Avon twice this week and the elected mayor of Bristol, George Ferguson, always wears red trousers:
Deamz
Zesk
Jody
And something from the archives. Jody started painting at the Dugout in the late 1980s and was one of the true pioneers of the Bristol scene. Back in the day he experimented with photorealism and abstraction and last year he had a great show which didn't get anything like the attention it deserved. There aren't many writers out there who would think to use the lighting in a subway to act as the light source in their pieces. The piece below was from a couple of years ago:

And something from the archives. With Dale Marshall's opening this weekend (which as I've said elsewhere is an amazing show which I would definitely recommend anyone to go and see) I thought it'd be a good time to post some of his street work. I've uploaded some big Vermin street pieces here but I thought I thought people might like to see some of the rawer street work too:

Visit BRISTOL π¬π§ Street Art, Galleries, Events, by Feral Things on Apr 27, 2014 10:20:50 GMT 1, Loverly venue (no snub intended) Yeah, it's the last remaining of five churches which were built in the city walls in the 14th century. The church was last used for worship about three decades ago and the building is rarely ever open, so it was lovely to be able to see inside. The exhibition was great too.
Here's some photos from Turner Prize winning artist Jeremy Deller's 'English Magic' installation/curatorial exhibition at the Bristol Museum and Art Gallery. Deller represented the UK at the 2013 Venice Biennale with this exhibition and the text under neither some of the painting is definitely worth reading, so I'll typed in up below.
"Sir Henry Synnot KCMG (1945-2011). Governor of Basra 2003-04. Sent to Iraq with half a page of instructions and a brief to 'play it by ear'. By Chris, HMP Everthorpe"
"'A Good Day for Cyclists'. On 24 October 2007, a wildlife officer and two members of the public observed a pair of protected hen harriers being shot out of the sky as they flew over the Sandringham Estate. The only people known to be shooting that day were Prince Harry and his friend, Willian van Cutsen. The police investigated the incident and questioned the prince, his friend and a Sandringham gamekeeper, but the case was later dropped as the carcases of the birds could not be found. The painting seen here depicts a giant hen harrier taking revenge on a passing Range Rover. Painted by Sarah Tynan."
"'We Sit Starting Amongst Our Gold'. In June 2011 Roman Abramnovich's 377-foot yaght Luna, moored alongside the Giardini quay. It blocked the view for many and a security fence was erected around it, restricting use of the promenade for locals, tourists and visitors to the Biennale. This act enraged William Morris, the Victorian designer and socialist, who, though long dead, returned as a colossus and threw the yacht into the lagoon....Mural painted by Stuart Sam Hughes"
This last photo was taken standing in the giftshop of 'Exit Through The Giftshop' fame and while I was passing I took a photo of the now emasculated 'Modern Lovers':

Visit BRISTOL π¬π§ Street Art, Galleries, Events, by Feral Things on Apr 29, 2014 10:44:38 GMT 1, If anyone in Bristol is looking for something to do over the coming Bank Holiday weekend then it's the Bristol Weekender where Bristol's studios, artists and galleries come together for a series of shows and performances. This includes an exhibition of Turner's watercolours at the Bristol Museum and Art Gallery and the Spike Island open studios (where, if you keep your eyes peeled, you'll see Sickboy's mark from when he used to use the printing studios here). There's a guide to what's on here.
Also, BV Studios (in Bedminster) have have their open studios on the second May bank holiday weekend, Jamaica Street Studios (just off Stokes Croft) have their open studios on 13, 14 and 15 June and the middle two weeks of September is the Bristol Biennial.
