My stuff, by shavemysoul on Jul 29, 2007 20:28:20 GMT 1, Well done Ollie for being brave enough to show your work up here.
I quite like some of it. It's quite varied and I would agree with you that you're still searching for your specific style whilst clearly sampling in a lot you are influenced by.

My stuff, by Oliver Garland on Jul 29, 2007 20:32:20 GMT 1, Thanks alot, It took 4 cans of beer and quite a few cigarettes to post them. I just thought, hey why not, Im doing art for the love of it, and even if people blast my work and dont like it, it wont stop me or discourage me from carry on. Thanks

Yeah of course. Hats off to you. I guess, as with a lot of things, you have to accept that some people won't like your work at all. But surely if just one or two people do like it, then it's worth it? That's what I figure...

My stuff, by Oliver Garland on Jul 29, 2007 20:43:30 GMT 1, Yeah it would be totally worth it. I just want to be able to create images that just cause a reaction. Id rather someone HATE my work with a passion, and someone LOVE it, than just think its ok and have nothing to say about it.

My stuff, by Oliver Garland on Jul 29, 2007 20:50:10 GMT 1, Yeah it is charcoal with watercolour washes, just a little experiment I tried. Yeah I like the second one, but not so sure about the pink cross, only for the reason that it has no reason...

My stuff, by Ågent ßacardi on Jul 29, 2007 20:52:26 GMT 1, I love the style of the first one. Very dreamy, kind dark... I know those aren't technical artistic terms (I'm no artist), but I like it a lot

My stuff, by ratsashocker on Jul 29, 2007 21:01:02 GMT 1, well im not keen on the A level still life!
...to me the first one works least well..could do with maybe more defenition on the face- stronger brush strokes
..also more 'something' in the pink area..

My stuff, by corblimeylimey on Jul 29, 2007 21:02:07 GMT 1, I like the third one best, looks like the one you've chosen for you avatar. 1 & 2 don't look finished, 4 is typical A level still life and 5 really shows a level of skill IMO.
Are you going to be starting a Foundation course or Degree? either way you've plenty of time yet to find your style.
Well done for being brave.

My stuff, by scavos on Jul 29, 2007 21:03:30 GMT 1, Good for you Ollie. I admire your bravery laying it down like that. The third one interests me. Very dark! And I know this will sound weird but I really like the lower half of the last portrait. The colours really do it for me. That green and bluey grey. Good luck at college.

My stuff, by Oliver Garland on Jul 29, 2007 21:06:36 GMT 1, starting a foundation first then going to go onto BA hopefully. Iv been really annoyed recently as I wanted this summer to be the time that I really stepped up my art and did alot more. However I found "art buying" and Im currently working 11 hours a day monday to friday having to fund my art habit and my foundation, Londons too expensive!

Obviously the Foundation course will give you a broad teaching, then by time you start the Degree you'll know what you want to take further, very early days for you.

as CBL says, you're young and have got plenty of time to find your 'style'
