Who has Banksy prints but no provenance?, by wezzley on Sept 26, 2007 0:12:48 GMT 1, Silky, with the greatest of respect isnt some of your comments plain scaremongering, sure anyone can fake a letter or email of prov....things have always been like that, its the matching of a name/shop + number confirmed by pow that you cant make up.. And as for not being able to trust pow...I'm sure that after that press report they will be pretty strict on things...storm in a teacup I think..
more on topic though - one of my early signed prints has no prov = was bought at a lost post auction years ago.....!

Who has Banksy prints but no provenance?, by ctc2 on Sept 26, 2007 4:38:26 GMT 1, My opinion is that this breakdown goes to the very core of what you do not want in such a high stakes business. If the printhouse who is charged with the administration of these prints is corrupt, then it undermines the whole process. I really think this is a big deal.

Who has Banksy prints but no provenance?, by sputnikeye on Sept 26, 2007 7:09:30 GMT 1, I had no provenance on a print. Wrote to POW talked to them and now they have registered myself as the owner of said print. It was bought from POW by myself a while ago so that made it all that much easier.

Who has Banksy prints but no provenance?, by thelildarkpoet on Sept 26, 2007 12:19:18 GMT 1, Neither of the (unsigned) Banksy's I own have provenance unfortunately, as they were bought through eBay in 2003 (although I did manage to ascertain the seller's name and where they were originally bought from - the Greenleaf bookshop in Bristol).
If this is the case though, how can it be proven that the prints are genuine (or they are from where it has been stated they are from, especially if the store has ceased trading)?

Thanks for that. I have fired them off a mail. Whether or not I'll get a reply is another matter entirely, especially given the number of mails that they'll be fielding at present. Ack.
