While I'm strongly opposed to capital punishment, this little turd cannot be compared to artists of any kind imo. He was punished (allbeit disproportionately) for destroying/damaging the property of others. Would you want your car striped with spraypaint or dented? I wouldn't! And while Singapore has some very OTT laws, it also has a super low crimerate. It must be one of the safest countries in the continent, so maybe there are also some things that they do right!
I can't judge the system there, but if choosing extremes, I'd rather have a peaceful neighbourhood with controls than one full of guns and violence which is free of controls.
There may be a fine and even blurred line between street art and vandalism at times, but this cr@phead falls very clearly on the vandalism side imo.
This little turd may think twice before destroying someone's car next time!

Visit SINGAPORE πΈπ¬ Street Art, Galleries, Events, by snakes on Aug 29, 2008 11:09:25 GMT 1, The number of places to eat is endless. Just walk around and stop at a place that takes your fancy. Being a cheap skate I often just went to the small roadside restaurants where the locals ate. The food is good and very cheap too and I had no issues with belly bugs!
Would think twice though if you were to eat in the Indian sector as hygiene there did not seem to be the number one priority...
Cannot wait to go back there on my return to Australia.

In terms of fussiness I am hard to beat and when I was in Bangkok there year before last I did not eat for nearly 3 days due to seeing how the food was cooked there.
Singapore beers are very pricey - stock up on beers in the supermarket or get a hip flask and mix your own!

Visit SINGAPORE πΈπ¬ Street Art, Galleries, Events, by gozgoz on Aug 29, 2008 11:52:58 GMT 1, im from Singapore.
If you stay around long enough, i think the Singapore Biennale 2009 is commencing next week. Its pretty cool. Its a collection of crazy modern installation art from all around the world. about 6 million buckeroos been put into this and last years event was a smash!
depends on what u wanna eat, go Newton Circus food centre, its most convenient for tourists. Bit hard for me to tell you about off the beaten track stuff.
Graffiti - Orchard Road Somerset station skate Park for some teenage tagging and murals. Go in the day and u might catch some kids doing graff. See if you can spot the teddy troops and london police if its still there?
Entertainment at night doesnt get more dingy and dodgy then Orchard Towers aka Four Floors of Whores. heh. go play "spot the REAL woman".

I take your point about seafood but if you can stomach it you really need to go to the East Coast seafood market, if you get really stuck then phone Gareth Tabard at ICAP tell him I've given you his name and he will offer you some 'local' advice.
You do get caned for 'minor' indiscretions in Singapore but the flip side is you can walk through the city centre at 3am and be safe. You cant say the same for Southend on a Friday night..........

Mmmmm fish... can't beat fish, all sorts of it too. Why don't you eat fish? You don't like it or some other reason? If it's you don't like it give it a try, it's like saying I don't eat any meat as I don't like pork. My food rule is always try something once, if you don't like it don't again but give everything a go...
McDonalds and KFC are fucking awful over here anyway so they must be bad there... drop the fast food and give the other stuff a try, stop at a roadside place and just ask for whatever looks good, you'll be surprised how much you like

Don't pay the Tourist Tax!! The first 3 floors of SIM LIM SQUARE (not SIM LIM TOWER, TOWER IS TOURIST TRAP) are crap. 4th onwards are buzzing with quality stuff at real bargains.
A store called FUWELL (on the 5th, i think) is nice and friendly (cost a few dollars more, but the service is better)
Bring your Macbook and have it installed, tested on the spot, make it's compatible and working.
www.hardwarezone.com if you have the time.
enjoy.

Also the dimsum in chinatown was very good when I was there.
Not sure if you are into cars, but have a quick look at one of the car magazines and get ready to feint at the prices. A mini costs the equivelent of around Β£40k!

We are moving back to the UK from Perth at some stage during July having spent a year here.
Because all our furnishings will be at sea (takes 6-8 weeks to arrive) and it will be the Summer holidays in the UK, we have a little time to spare.
we were thinking about stopping off at a few places on the way home, like Thailand, China, Singapore etc. Spending 2-4 weeks enjoying ourselves while educating our 4 children(aged 6- 16)and ourselves on different lifestyles and cultures.
We have not been to Asia before, and are looking for any suggestions of places to go to.
Also what would be the cheapest way to book flights for the 6 of us, do any agents specialise in this kind of thing.
Cheers
