A Very Sobering Experience, by edcase on Oct 27, 2008 13:04:27 GMT 1, In instances like this is always difficult to work out whether you have been incredibly unlucky or incredibly lucky. The chances of you being in that exact spot at that exact time so indefinably small, and yet at the same time it sounds like you are also incredibly lucky to come out the other side at least physically intact. This kind of thing can have a major effect especially on younger people, don't rule out the possibility of seeking counselling. I always believed I knew my own mind, but having successfully had NLP last year to cure me of a fear of flying, it showed just how powerful the brain can be and how it can latch onto the simplest of things and create a pattern of behaviour around it which can be very destructive, sometimes without you even realising.
Ultimately though, just glad to hear you are all physically okay.

A Very Sobering Experience, by skanky on Oct 27, 2008 13:40:21 GMT 1, Sorry to hear what happened Cocteau by the sounds of it you were all very lucky, take as much time off work as you can and spend it with your family . Your wife and daughter must be really shaken up by this. Really glad no one was seriously hurt. Speak soon.

A Very Sobering Experience, by Cocteau 101 on Oct 27, 2008 13:44:54 GMT 1, To everyone who has posted on here and sent me pm's I just want to say thank you. It was a nightmare to be honest but thankfully we are all reasonably ok. I really appreciate the kind words I've received from everyone on here and it goes to show that whilst we might disagree about some aspects of the art we love, we are all concerned and appreciate everyone's wellbeing. Thanks again Joe

A Very Sobering Experience, by brun on Oct 27, 2008 17:55:20 GMT 1, wow you were lucky mate ! i had near death car experience ,was knocked unconscious , and my eye socket was ripped open no major damage though and my sight was fine but i have some scars on my face and a small dent on my eye socket.....at this time i had a outer body experience and saw myself shaking uncontrollably! i then spent a week in hospital but maybe 3 years recovering though from the head impact . i found myself depressed and anxious , unable to leave my home , at one point i remember i could not tie my laces so check for head injuries that cannot be seen , or you may find some odd depression bouts etc . take care!

A Very Sobering Experience, by weaver on Oct 27, 2008 18:16:36 GMT 1, As long as you are all ok C, it takes a while to get over a scare like that, the worst thing was the helplessness and uncontrolable caution I had for a long time after mine, freaking out a bit as you couldn't control other peoples actions. My wife took longer as she was a non driver at the time and had no control whatsoever as to how others reacted. Our accident was on the 21st of June 2002, and still has its effects now. Thankfully no one was killed in a combined impact of 160mph, T-boning an articulated lorry.

The fear goes, as does the mood swings, one minute elated that you walked away, the next upset thinking of the what if. It does take time though, no physical damage is the first big hurdle though. Very glad you are all ok.

A Very Sobering Experience, by rkitek on Oct 28, 2008 1:29:57 GMT 1, I'm terribly sorry to hear about the accident. The important thing is that you and your family are alright. I'm sure it must be an extremely difficult time just now. Take care.
p.s., hopefully the package en route will help lighten the spirits.

A Very Sobering Experience, by Filipino Box Spring Hog on Oct 28, 2008 4:27:32 GMT 1, To echo everyone else, I'm happy you're all physically o.k. - I've been in a few harrowing experiences before - train going off the track, hitting a tractor trailer truck, flipping my Audi on black ice and landing on the roof ( I'd not be here if it wasn't for a seat belt), etc... It's easy after a while to forget how precious this life is and how easily and quickly it can all change or end. It is unfortunate the unpleasant experiences help us to realise this. As much as I dreaded reading you and your family's story, I thank you for reminding me to put certain things in my life into perspective.
Be well, man.

A Very Sobering Experience, by ejvaze on Oct 28, 2008 4:45:20 GMT 1, Joe I am pleased to hear you and your loved ones are OK I am only too aware just how fragile life can be and how thin a tightrope we walk in life. Turn this experience into something positive and make sure you spend more time with your wife and children. Art believe it or not is not the most important thing in life I mean we cannot take it with us, relationships are far more important.
