What do ya do?!, by dotdot on Nov 10, 2008 18:27:10 GMT 1, Im not working - got a spinal cord decease in 2006. Last week I got an test-operation with an external pacemaker, so right now I have 3 electric cords going out of my back, to a pacemaker in a belt. I may not bath, sit, bend, cross my legs, lift etc. - and the crap piece pacemaker gives me 5-10 volts shocks every freaking second. However, it gets removed on the 21th of november - looking forward to it. I may to get a couple of operations next year, so hopefully I can work again. ;D Its quite hard to collect art like this, no money really to spend, havent been out of the house since 2006 - only for operations etc., so I cannot attend any artshow, even if I wanted to - like the Hush & Faile show this week, thats why I earlier today asked to buy the Hush show freebees on the buy/sell board. However, I REALLY enjoy being on this forum every day, and I love the stuff I have gotten so far. ;D
Nice to hear youโre still cheerful dude.
If thereโs anything coming up - iโll be sure to try and help you out.
your story puts the board and itโs many facets in perspective.

What do ya do?!, by Martin DK on Nov 12, 2008 2:38:32 GMT 1, Hi again guys, Im really sorry, seams like I have taken over this thread, it really wasent my intension. I just want to thank you all for all the nice PM's I have gotten the past couple of days, I had no idea my illness would affect so many people like it did.
Also, my shot post in the tread have raised a lot of questions concerning my illness, because I didnt give any background to the story. And I thought id let you know.
My illness is called Transverse Myelitis, it is a neurologic syndrome caused by inflammation of the spinal cord. I got it in august 2006 one day after work. It attacked like lightning from a clear sky in my left arm. We rushed to the hospital, and then it got to the right arm when we got there. When it attacked there was a lot of pain because the nervous system stops working, and also you have absolutly no feeling or movement/control over area. two days later I no longer could feel my stomach, and on the fourth day I was completely paralyzed from my nack and down. I could talk, see, hear, but could not move. The hospital could not find out what was wrong with me, and at that point I was having trouble breathing normally, so finally they rushed me to another hospital with expertice in the nervous system, and they found out what was wrong with me the same day and stopped the illness in getting any worse. At that point things started to move forward, and I had to start learning everything again and build up muscles, they had all gone. So I trained with an instructor for about a year, and eventhough I had slim chances of walking ever again, I today got a lot back. I walk normally, have some muscles etc. you cannot see that im ill, only if you test me. However I still have problems, like with sensitivity, I cannot feel if things are hot or cold too good, and everything from the neck and is like its asleep, like numb I think its called. However, my main issues is that my bladder and bowel control are disturbed, i have control, but only for a few mins, and thats why I dont go out of the house. This is also where the pacemaker comes in, its there to help boost my nervous system, and that way make it ok again, so now ill just have to wait and see how it goes. The hospital do have more idea up thier sleeves if this goes wrong, so we'll find a solution.
Hope this helped a little, since my post in the thread was very short.
Thanks again for all the PM's....
...and now, on with it - what do you guys do? ;D

What do ya do?!, by tomjedimaster on Nov 12, 2008 7:27:05 GMT 1, i spent this entire weekend on pit lane at phoenix international raceway taking brake temperatures on the NASCAR sprint cars as they came in from their test and qualifying laps. the company i work for supplies 35 out of the 43 cars on the grid, so lots of running around. sunday's race was great...and no brake problems
i was at an automotive trade show in vegas last week, and currently in newport beach to visit a distributor. then back to england later this week to test some cars.

What do ya do?!, by tomjedimaster on Nov 12, 2008 8:52:08 GMT 1, what a small world. i was with the gibbs team at the end of the pitt lane during the race (tony stewart's home depot car). all of the people in NASCAR are super friendly, it's such a fun atmosphere with those guys. they are like a travelling family.
it is such a contrast from the UK, where the majority of the drivers and teams are completely up their own ass. it's too bad.
