NOT SOLD OUT , by spirit on Mar 16, 2008 0:49:11 GMT 1, JBOY - out of interest, and to get back on topic, what artists do you like whose work does not sell out instantly - is there anyone?. You seem to have been making the point that if an artist does not sell out immediately it's because they must be shit - which is why people presume you must only be in it for the cash. Or is it just a coincidence that your taste happens to perfectly align with that of the flippers?
And as far as lemoning everyone last year with regards to Dface goes - I seem to remember that you sold yours shortly after hyping him up - which kind of means you lemoned yourself - as his prices only really started rocketing this year...

It takes all sorts... but those of those named above are fantastic artists, if you don't appreciate their work fine, but you can't call it s**t!
I'm not a fan of Kawasaki, and I wouldn't buy it but she's definitely talented. Same goes for Lucy Mac.
I think Choe, Micallef, Neate and Small are four of the best around at the moment... Neate and Small especially. Their original works blow alomost everything I've seen out of the water... boring??? Anything but!

NOT SOLD OUT , by bullet on Mar 16, 2008 1:01:10 GMT 1, its the choice of the image though, its not varied enough.
if you put al the neates on a supermarket shelf they would all be the same in colour and style and all you would see is a sea of the same colours. Take D*face for instance...you may see a sea of dogs and skulls but my god it would be a colour and image explosion...
see my point.

Nope... All the same colour and style??? Utter rubbish... please look at them again... Every single print he's done stands alone as a quality image, but it also complimented by his others... true class is Mr Neate

Quite possibly the worst argument you have ever put across... May I suggest you have a quick look at Neate's work?

NOT SOLD OUT , by Heavyconsumer on Mar 16, 2008 2:15:47 GMT 1, Jboy, If you prefer straight talking mate, why do you ignore most of the points made in most of the threads and spend so much time being defensive and talking nonsense?
Your initial (and a later) post on this thread slated work by some of the most (imo) exciting talents around. Dface more colourful or even a fraction as original in subject choice as Neate? You're either smoking too much crack or just talking crap to generate a response! Probably the latter.
I've waited a long time to engage you directly, because you're always very verbose and I normally can't be arsed, but you are full of shit and full of yourself. Otherwise, you would just have contributed a couple of names to the thread (Hewlett, Dolk, Copyright, Ame72, Jeff A etc...- who it appears you like) rather than saying that, McLauchlan, Neate and Small are crap!
Dface will never ever ever be capable of making the crossover that Neate does with natural ease, regardless how much his work is going for. Maybe that's not a positive for those who so like to pigeon-hole their artists as "street" or otherwise, but get real and please try to offer something more positive, because it's very obvious that you're smart enough to do that!

Thanks Rourk I love my Smalls, both prints and originals are stunning and his originals are pretty special in the flesh.
Personally I think all his work looks very different but I guess I am little bias.

It is a matter of opinion but I would not say those artist were dry. I do like Micallefs charcoal pieces they are amazing. GIWTBโs on the bay the last time I checked are a steal and if I didnโt have one I would snap one up.
Adam Neate I am a big fan of and also have to disagree that all his work looks the same as it doesnโt. I Know I shouldnโt say this but I would choose a top Adam Neate original over a top Banksy original on my walls any day.
This is due to the pleasure I get from a Neate that I donโt get from a banksy. I can find my self getting lost while admiring a Neate and can enjoy the same piece for hrs, every day all day. With a banksy its very much shorter for me It is still pleasurable but not at the same level and I do love his work but a totally different experience.
I donโt own any work by Choe but I do like his textured work and he is clearly talented artist.

I have spoken a lot about all artists at one point, its just that people have selective memory, or its the new people that get impressions from the older members.
Basically i cant win, but i can give my view. And my view is that artists like neate are good, but you give anyone on the street a picture of a dface d-dog or a adam neate tea drinker - and they will go for the d-dog as its more pleasing and friendly, they probably would think that the neate was some scribblings of a teenager on cardboard. Oh wait, thats exactly what it is.
(IMO)

NOT SOLD OUT , by Heavyconsumer on Mar 16, 2008 2:48:35 GMT 1, The beauty is we all have our own opinions and preferences, but I feel that to label artists who are, in some cases, are very much today's vanguard as "totally boring" is an almost sinful statement, especially from someone who claims to appreciate art. You're capable of a lot more than that.
I think you're totally wrong about the Neate Dface comparison, 99% of the time, unless all the people you stop in the street are stoned and on skateboards. DDog is a bloody eyesoar imo and while I think the Saddam is a fairly cool image, inviting or enjoyable to look at day after day? Not imho. It's great how so many members tell you you have your head shoved up your arse but you always come back though! I respect you for that! Although I think you must have rhinocerous skin!
