Officer Down. DOLK, by snakes on May 21, 2007 21:18:46 GMT 1, Try dropping them an email to pencil you down for one (info@handmadeposters.com). The guys there are double helpfull, could even suggest sending payment via cheque whilst their payment system is down. Good luck and both of the dolk prints are absolutely fantastic and down to the finest detail, you will not be dissapointed.

Unoriginal? where's all the other pieces of art that look just like this?
My computer dictionary gives the definition of obtuse to be... annoyingly insensitive or slow to understand
I think you're slow to understand, it's a great image IMO.

Officer Down. DOLK, by snorky on May 22, 2007 17:08:15 GMT 1, Obtuse is perfectly correctin this case
The Pig / copper interface goes back the 1950's- some say back to Orwells Animal far, but came into widespread use in the 1960's
officer down - a weak pun on the US police srvice code for an injured officer/unfortunate syurname of polcie officer - has been around for at least a decade.
What is Dolk trying to say here ?
Is it an anti police statement ? not than I can see
a tongue in cheek skit on gun crime in urban areas ? Nope.
A call to arms to forment revolution on the streets ?
Bottom line - its a pointless image - I am goading you to explain what its all about and why its worth having.
try not to justify something worth because of the artists repuation , otherwise we would all have houses full of Emins, despite them having no artistic merit whatsoever
Its a head/ arse interface scenario people - remember the tale of the emperors new clothes.

Officer Down. DOLK, by finsburyparkranger on May 22, 2007 17:37:26 GMT 1, Personally I think snorky has got a point. The image is simply anti- police. Thats why i wouldn't want it on my wall. Its like being anti cricket bats. Although i do like the way you get the feeling a dead police man has just morphed into a pig. I also like the way its drawn. But It is retrospective. We stopped calling the old bill 'pigs' a long time ago. As I've said before, there's never been a revolution with out the poice or the army supporting the people. If you really want to change things you sure as hell need them on side. Although I can see why the graffiti artist, playing the game of cat and mouse, enjoys to demonise them. Although of course, maybe I'm wrong. Am i missing something here?

Officer Down. DOLK, by snorky on May 22, 2007 18:03:13 GMT 1, Its the artistic equivalent of a bunch of schoolkids sniggering over a stolen soft core porn mag in the school toilets or a group of 17 year old public schoolkids getting ripped to the gills on adulterated hash in amsterdam and listening to shit reggae whilst wearing Bob Marley T shirts
titilating for the juvenile at the time, but also something that if it reared it head a few years later, would be rather embarrasing

Officer Down. DOLK, by corblimeylimey on May 22, 2007 18:04:52 GMT 1, You said it was unoriginal, poking fun at the police maybe unoriginal but the way he has done it is not.
It's a very simple image it doesn't need much explanation as I said it's just poking fun at the police.
I'm happy to have it on the wall as I have no special place in my heart for the police, although they're not all bad of course but I have seen some ridiculous and offensive police behavior, although personally I have more contempt for the army.
finsburyparkranger as for revolutions not being possible without the support of the police or army you're right in a way, but unfortunately it's actually their job to stop revolutions and more often than not they do just that, remember tiananmen square china.
I also support the rights of travellers, particularly having known a few, and I remember the so called 'battle of the bean field' when the police bust up Stonehenge and I've seen the mindless destruction that the police brought down on them, it was absolutlely shameful homes of poor women and children smashed.
UPDATE for those of you who are too young to remember the battle of the bean field...

Officer Down. DOLK, by finsburyparkranger on May 22, 2007 18:20:31 GMT 1, I hear where you're coming from CBL and full respect to you.... but can you blame the police for these actions? Its like blaming the minors for global warming isn't it? They are just porns of the state.
PS I like listening to bob marley whilst reading mayfair and chuffing on the odd weak homegrown jazzwoodbine. Sorry Snorky.

Of course not all police are bad, and if there's a traffic accident, or robbery, or personal attack they do come in very handy.

Officer Down. DOLK, by insite on May 22, 2007 18:24:27 GMT 1, If anyone's interested in knowing more about the Beanfield there's now a book about it, released in 2005 too commemorate the 20th anniversary. It's titled "Battle of the Beanfield" and is by Andy Worthington.
It's O.K. but pretty much just a re-hash of the Dispatches documentary of the same name with a bit more detail, some of the first hand stories I've heard send a shiver through your spine and because of this and 20 years of disrespect since they're still pigs too us.

Officer Down. DOLK, by corblimeylimey on May 22, 2007 18:31:52 GMT 1, Well said insite.
I visited some traveller friends at Savernake Forest (where everyone regrouped) after the awful event, as I said it was quite shocking just seeing the aftermath, and hearing the stories.

Officer Down. DOLK, by finsburyparkranger on May 22, 2007 18:32:13 GMT 1, What could they do to stop making you call them pigs?
EDIT:
Don't feel the need to answer that questions I'm not trying to defend police brutality. I just think we are venting our anger on the wrong targets.
PPS I don't really read mayfair.

Officer Down. DOLK, by corblimeylimey on May 22, 2007 18:53:02 GMT 1, One thing you don't see with the police is their prejudice if you not the one being prejudiced against.
I've been fortunate enough to see it from both sides, firstly I've been treated well then when I'm in a different group whether it be Travellers, Hunt Sabs, Demos etc you're treated different. I've got away with it as I've never been a full time traveller but I can imagine the constant prejudice you'll experience if you are from what I've seen. It's not just the police either I've entered a pub bought some drinks had friendly chat etc then when I've gone back later after the locals have realised who I'm with, I've been banned!

Officer Down. DOLK, by finsburyparkranger on May 22, 2007 19:24:04 GMT 1, You speak allot of sense CBL. Although this image is celebrating the 'DEATH' of a policeman....
The failure of this image in my opinion, is that it does more to show the unfortunate prejudice of others rather than pulling a punch at prejudice its self.

And the alternatives would be what ? ponder over whether it's the chablis or chardonay that goes with Kruder and Dorfmeister whilst glancing through wallpaper mag.. you'll be wearing proper shoes and subscribing to the daily mail before you know it
It is what it is, street art.. it's simply using the police as a symbol that represents authority in all it's guises...and I guess he has a problem with authority and do most "writers"
And hey.. it's just a picture. Unlike the bullet that went through Jean Charles de Menezes head on stockwell tube not too long ago. Not so juvenile then was it... fuck it.. f u c k the police and all who sail in her IMO ;D
