Artists You Might Not Know, by astarti on Jul 2, 2020 9:50:19 GMT 1, This is the work of Yulia Tsvektova. With this post I wont be judging her on artistic merit and she is neither part of the street art scene. Nevertheless, I believe that a mention of her in this forum is well deserved (please moderators if this is totally off topic just delete my post). She was born in 1994 in the city of Komsomolets in the Amur River in Siberia. She is an anxious and creative spirit, painter, director, human rights activist and rights of the LGBT community in Russia; a complex and multi-talented personality.
Yulia Tsvektova has been identified as a political prisoner by the Memorial Foundation. The reason for her persecution is the sketches I have uploaded which depict parts of the female body with various slogans for self-determination, freedom of choice, etc. She has been sentenced to 6 years in prison for depicting the female genitalia. She has been honored with the Index on Censorship Award and is the second Russian woman after the late journalist Anna Poliktovskaya to enjoy such recognition in the international community.

I appreciate the post, but the accuracy is not there. She has NOT been sentenced to 6 years prison. She is currently no longer under house arrest though travel restrictions are in place.

Thanks for the correction, much appreciated. I read it as such from a Greek journalist. I guess one always needs to double check before posting anything.

Artists You Might Not Know, by flatcolor on Jul 21, 2020 20:49:32 GMT 1, Interesting piece. Reminds me of a graffiti artist from here in Toronto named Mediah (https://instagram.com/mediah) Yeah, I do like Mediahs work, his is more handpainted or printed though, as Long's is mostly collaged. Long also does very cool sculptural work. Worth checking his website if you have a moment.
I liken Long's style in the form of Nawer from Poland and some similarites to Tellegen in the NL. Throw some Kofie in the mix as well.
Cheers!

A collector friend of mine just put me on to Danny's photography work, his work includes some of the best hip hop/ rap albums. I see it as a new wave in collecting

Artists You Might Not Know, by fonebone45 on Sept 24, 2020 17:19:48 GMT 1, Hey all, been on the forum since around 2012 I think, and haven't really posted my own work yet. My art based Instagram is instagram.com/glueyart
I just put together a collection of 4 prints recently. They're editions of 40, 3-colours, 50x70cm, $200 CAD
Hope you like them, and give me a follow on IG if you're so inclined.
They're also available through hashtaggallery.com in the shop section.
Thanks, Graeme
