I’ve been a fan of Fin Dac’s work for a number of years and, though I’d always harboured the ambition to own an original piece, it never really seemed like a terribly realistic proposition that’d I would ever own one. . However, his recent ‘Afterglow/Undertow’ show finally presented an opportunity so I grabbed it with both hands…and some pleading emails to West. While it’s unlikely I’ll ever be able to buy a large original painting (though I’m not giving up on the dream quite yet), this is the result of those emails/wishes:

Hand drawn by the artist with Staedtler Micrograph pencil and watercolour on to 300gsm art paper.
210 x 297mm/ 357 x 270 x 6mm in two piece perspex frame with aluminium corner screws.

Signed, numbered 1/1 and stamped by the artist to the front.

Each sketch has a hand written “story/anecdote” by the artist on his first meeting with the subject on the reverse. (I’m keeping it to myself though, it’s nice to have something unshared.)

I did also buy a show print ‘Fleur Li - 05’. It’s an interesting change of look and feel for Fin and the diamond dust adds a nice new element of depth to the finish. Each is also subtly hand finished (the painting on the lips).

I shared a post about this Nuno Viegas piece recently and some of you may remember my joy at finally owning an original piece by him after several years of setting myself the goal to one day own one. Well, this piece is now back from MFM having made the decision to frame it. My thinking was that I wanted to protect it longer-term and also find a way of doing so that would complement the piece and work alongside some of my other framed pieces. In truth, the exposed pine surround it came with never really worked (for me). Really happy with the finished result and, once again, have to thank MFM for all his help with this one. There’s a reason why I use him for all my pieces.

Finally got this back from the framer, simple float mount in a white frame and AR70 glass.
The range of words becomes almost hypnotic, I am sure there is a great story in there somewhere.

My word is 'Lemmy', quite surprised to find my dogs name 'Flo' along side Stella Artois and Malbec.

Beauty of a postcard. Wonderful image and thick with 🎨. Classic Faile and I look forward to seeing that framed. Incidentally, that Mary beard computer print photostat edition of 50 with a hand scrawled signature in biro gets put to shame with the effort that went into this. It really doesn’t take much. It looks to me like a Julie Nelson* ceramic.

For my own continuing education, I'd be grateful for confirmation as to whether that's correct.

Sorry about my late acknowledgement, and thank you for the informative reply.

After first viewing your close-up photo, I wrongly assumed the crazing was due to crackle-glaze having been used.

It's only after looking up Raku, and watching a couple of videos today on Western raku techniques, that I realised the crazing on your pieces was achieved by the post-firing smoking process.

Yeah I actually doublechecked and it's on its way to California too... it's "Just Gaze" that is still missing! Thanks! It looks very well made!
