Slinkachu ๐ฌ๐ง Sculpture โข Street Installation โข Photography, by pezlow on Jun 25, 2007 14:50:43 GMT 1, Also I'm being a bit thick here. What is meant by "Originals" do you actually get the little people or is it just a photograph of them as shown. If just a photograph in what way is this an "original"??

Hi, No you don't get the little people, they are left in the street to get picked up, crushed or if lucky, left to get on with there lives.
Slinkachu decided to do these pieces - creating each situation as 1 offs, and as well as signing the print he has sign a certificate stating they are only produced as 1 offs. Also to distinguish between his print runs, he has printed them as a larger format and given the buyer the long shot, which is also an archival fine art print.
Hope this helps. Cheers C

It surprises me that this is the last one to sell. It's a brilliant image and one I'd definitely buy if I had the money.

Slinkachu ๐ฌ๐ง Sculpture โข Street Installation โข Photography, by corblimeylimey on Oct 7, 2007 18:24:14 GMT 1, I really like Slinkachu's work, and have plenty of ideas of my own, mainly centred around the coast. I went out today to do some work with rockpools but the tide was too high, but had a different idea, here's the results...

Hopefully I can do better in the future, it was quite awkward getting close as the figure as it was inside the boat, also I don't think my zoom lens is the best to use (a macro lens would be better, but I haven't got one yet) Hopefully on the rock pools and beach I can get closer easier.

Looks fantastic, I love them!
In my opinion the first one looks the best, it is close enough to show the small man, but gives you the idea of his surroundings and what he is doing.
well done.

Slinkachu ๐ฌ๐ง Sculpture โข Street Installation โข Photography, by corblimeylimey on Oct 7, 2007 18:58:13 GMT 1, Cheers for the comments guys, this is only my first attempt, I'm sure I can only get better, and the right lens would help. I've got plenty of ideas, I've got some sunbathers, and nude sunbathers and photographer sets of figures as well as another 5 divers, I was thinking of putting a diver near the shoreline face to face with a crab, a diver in or near rock pool, photographer taking a sneeky pic of nude sunbathers, sunbathers next to dropped ice cream, etc etc I could go on. I'd like to get some rock climbers too.
I like the colours of the first one, looks like tropical waters.

I like the first one for the most effective at the Slinkachu effect. I like the red one for the image itself, especially the reflection of the light underneath the wood. I agree with you that a macro lens will really help with these type of shots. It's pretty amazing you achieved these without one. Look forward to seeing your next pics.

Having shaky hands i take my hat off to anyone getting sharp pictures handheld
I was out in some streams taking slow exposure shots a couple of days ago, i cannot stress enough a decent tripod will take you so far with this project.Have a read up on uni-loc tripods, they would be perfect for you, the legs will go pretty much in any direction meaning you could base it outside the boat and use the swing boom? arm to get the camera in close

I've got a Manfrotto 055 Pro tripod which has got the boom facility with 322RC2 head, but I couldn't be arsed with the getting the boom in use maybe next time I shouldn't be so lazy. Most of these pics were taken on the tripod but some were handheld. I've just been looking at macro lenses on the web for around ยฃ100 I think I'll need to go to a camera shop and try some out.

Slinkachu ๐ฌ๐ง Sculpture โข Street Installation โข Photography, by pastiepie on Oct 8, 2007 1:20:29 GMT 1, I really like the colours, particularly the blue in the first one, did you PP in Photoshop/Lightroom? if so what settings did you use. Technically I think they look good but what Slinkachu does best is set the scene so well. It's looks like a whole separate world. I'm not one to tell you what to do but maybe you could try and incorporate some more elements, whether it be more figures or life-sized props used in a novel way. Either way I expect to see some new shots within the month

Slinkachu ๐ฌ๐ง Sculpture โข Street Installation โข Photography, by insite on Oct 8, 2007 9:45:15 GMT 1, You've made an excellent start there mate, I'd say #1 is the pick of the bunch, the blue creates a bit of ambiguity as to where the scene is set and the composition works well. You're right about getting a macro lens, I've got two sigmas that I use, the 17-70f2.8-4.5 and a 70-300 DG APO. Both do macro although that was a secondary consideration in their purchase and the 70-300 costs around ยฃ120-ยฃ140, bit clunky to use but top results for your money. Like you I've got a big heavy Manfrotto but don't forget improvised beanbags, take your coat off use it to hold the camera in place and use self timer to eliminate shake.
(edit) just remembered Slinks on flickr, send him a mail see what he thinks I mailed him about one of my photos and we had a bit of a chat nice friendly geezer.

Slinkachu ๐ฌ๐ง Sculpture โข Street Installation โข Photography, by corblimeylimey on Oct 8, 2007 10:32:10 GMT 1, Thanks for all the praise and advice, some of my ideas use more than one character and wil use life size props too. the next stage it to get a way of making the standing figures stand (they just fall over) I thought about glueing a pin to a foot and that would dig into the sand or earth. The macro lens maybe essential too.
Pastiepie, I did very little indeed in photoshop, nothing in some cases, mainly a little cropping/horizon straightening, and sharpening after reducing in size for the web, I didn't touch the colour etc at all.
