An update on the sales thread as promised to many of you.

It was the Signed Gansta Rat that has found a new home with another forum member. It's taken a while to sort out with Pest Control busy, seasonal shenanigans and of course Covid, but the actual sale communications were very smooth with both sides very happy with the outcome. A genuine win win

The final sale price was £115,000 which from what we know was market leading at the time it was agreed and subsequently ratified by the identical hammer price at Forum in early December.

Before anyone asks, the LIITA and the Trolleys are staying put for the foreseeable future.

New to this... not sure if posting on the right place so apologies if not.
Have a LIITA unsigned in perfect condition.... luckily got it professional framed when bought.
Have seen that some galleries have it for 190k.... but what would a reasonable expectation be for a private sale be?

Also whilst I am going to need to sell in the very near future for financial reasons...I don’t know whether to wait until Sotheby’s auction result in March where I’ve seen they have one available. They also have a signed up - not sure if that is influence the unsigned sale or not... Whilst I know nothing is a certainty any knowledgeable advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Wait until after the Sotheby's sale but make sure that the piece is in the same condition as yours so that the comparison is at least fair. You can do this by registering on their website and asking for a condition report. It's an in-season sale and should create a new price precedent.

Agree if you can wait til March. You probably won't get a lesser offer by then, but it could gain you a 5 figure increase in that time after Sothebys.

Fantastic piece but there seem to be a fair few in wings both signed and unsigned, there's 3 in auction and at least 3 being offered privately. There is a danger that this will hold back the price little bit?

If I was selling today I'd be looking to be returned £150k for unsigned and would go privately and maybe via a gallery. Just a view!

Christies, Sotheby's and Forum sold one earlier in the month at £125k hammer £167k all up.

I think JFCC makes a point, I think there was alot of pent up demand for Litta as so few came to the market in recent years but now the price has been established there is a risk things could get saturated. The Forum auciton result was £125k so around £160k with fees, if you're playing it safe an offer around £150k privately needs serious consideration. You may get more after the March auctions or if results come in below expectations you may not.

There's a lot of talk about how many actually exist but there are 2 on the private market at present and 1 at auction.

Does anyone have or have seen an unsigned LIITA with an edition number > 51 and <100?

Christies has that there were only 50 signed.  I know of another one signed that is numbered less than 50 (in addition to this auction).  So, if we can find an unsigned in between 51 and 100, that lends more proof to only 50 that were signed.

EDIT:  Also, if you know of a signed piece, can you post if the edition number is < or > 50.  If we get more datapoints of all signed being numbered < 50, that lends more proof.

Weren't the early prints signed as and when purchased rather thn in advance, so signed versions wouldn't be in sequencial blocks?
