Banksy • Choose Your Weapon, GREY Queue Jumping, by Deleted on Dec 16, 2010 15:49:23 GMT 1, i haven't read this thread all teh way through so may be repeating whats already been said. But I saw Simon talking with people and taking names and email addresses. I am sure those people would have all been offered a print. However as regarding to just randomly emailing and getting one. I would imagine you have a better chance of finding one tucked behind your sofa. but if you genuinly missed out, due to queue pushers in etc, let POW know. you never know your luck.

aw c'mon baz you know this place has no rhyme or reason, it's simply which ever rule best fits said situation someone is unhappy with.
the integrity of the edition size is a valid point , but i guess this has to be weighed up against doing right by the largest number of customers in return for follow up business down the line. Was their a corect answer? No, unless you were one of those who complained and got a print in return for this.

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon, GREY Queue Jumping, by Daniel Silk on Dec 16, 2010 16:07:45 GMT 1, Will be interesting to see how queues go in the future
I mean if people see those who jumped the Banksy queue in other art release queues in the future, I guess its ok to just drag them out of the line and take their place?
BTW, I wasn't there, so I'm not moaning, I dint miss out, I dint try, I could not afford one.

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon, GREY Queue Jumping, by hlarmy on Dec 16, 2010 16:09:16 GMT 1, It does feel that POW can't win whatever they do. There was no end of moaning on here from people about pusher inners and about POW failing to do anything about it. So they do what I am sure we would all agree is the right thing and give a new edition of prints to those people they can establish were genuinely aggrieved. Just like the Grey NOLA they have attempted to do the right thing. Yet still people aren't happy. As I have said before if I was banksy I wouldn't bother doing any more limited edition prints. The hassle that he and POW get just can't be worth it.
I’m not sure I agree Pez; POW is a business and are doing very well out of such releases, there’s no such thing as easy money so I’m sure they’re happy to deal with a few whingers in order to stay afloat and a decent contribution towards their costs each year. In regards to Banksy, I’m sure his priority is not keeping everyone happy – no doubt he wants things to be fair, which is why he has done this ‘queue-jumping grey’ edition and did the extra Nola print a few years ago, but I’m sure he’ll realise that with very release there is always going to be far more people upset than happy (hence the word ‘limited’). Each print release raises a large amount of money for the charity of his choice (whether people on here agree with it or not!), which I’m sure it higher up on his priorities than keeping everyone happy.
Things haven’t worked perfectly this year, but the release has served its purpose. POW will hopefully learn from a few mistakes, and next year’s release should go smoother. Those with a print are happy, those without aren’t. It’s time to move on everyone, get on with your lives – a Banksy release is always something I look forward to, and I have been lucky to pick up some from source, but have the realisation that the chances are slim (getting one is well and truly a bonus). Next year, I will continue to look forward to it with anticipation, and enjoy the hype when the time comes, whether I pick one up or not. As everyone keeps saying, there’s more important things in life.
Am I rambling yet…

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon, GREY Queue Jumping, by Sundowner on Dec 16, 2010 22:13:37 GMT 1, It does feel that POW can't win whatever True. But...it a joke having to queue in the middle of winter to have a chance of getting a print. Since this system was introduced it's the same people grabbing a print. Not to mention the organised gangs getting in on the act. This year those who aren't/weren't able to queue never got a look in. Really what is wrong with an on line release? It gives most people are fairer chance of getting one. Banksy releases used to be fun, even when you missed out you as the forum used to be buzzing. This year in particular it has been pretty much an ugly affair.
Whichever way Banksy prints are released someone always says "it isn't fair". The last time they were released online was for Nola and there were so many people hitting the website simultaneously that they oversold by 63 and Banksy then had to produce a grey rain edition.....many of which were promptly flipped on ebay.
The combination of a queueing system for those who want to brave the elements and an online lottery works well IMO. When there is a quick buck to be made, you are always going to attract a certain percentage of the wrong type of person and the only reason there is negativity about this year's release is because of the lack of Security resulting in people pushing in, which POW have said they will address for the next release. In general, queueing systems work well if policed properly.
If you don't like queueing, then don't queue and put your faith in the lottery, simple as that.

I think the Grey edition was because POW accidentally put up the "buy" button the next morning after the release. People had been F5'ing all night after the "white release", and 63 got lucky before they removed the "buy" button again.

not sure that's true - when it went on sale I got a print and then read on the board that someone else had the same print number straight after.
I ended up with the white and the other guy (I assume) got a grey.
Mines framed and on the wall

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon, GREY Queue Jumping, by My Name is Frank on Dec 16, 2010 22:53:21 GMT 1, Do you know what, make it santa's summer holiday. Get the grill fired up, the music playing and a queue of people. Nice, warm and fun.
Still think they cracked it with VLH though,s**t loads made by just registering for a good cause and everyone gets a chance, hell stick the tickets online too, why not? You can't have any complaints if you have 48 hours of ticket procurement, if you win nothing you gave to charity, if you score then you can 'win' the chance to buy a banksy, win win win, game over.

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon, GREY Queue Jumping, by artylang on Dec 16, 2010 23:39:27 GMT 1, The lottery is a waste. The online "bun fight" was fun. At least you were somewhat in control of your own destiny. This new method of a lottery, which people call fair, is far from it. With a small bit of programming knowledge one can easily increase their odds exponentially. Bring back the online releases or charge market value like Faile does and then "fans" will buy them and KEEP them.

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon, GREY Queue Jumping, by christyben on Dec 16, 2010 23:41:20 GMT 1, Good to see POW sort it out after the event.
I think they really need to sort proper security next release. Barriers, security (at least 3)and a registration system when you arrive. Would only cost a grand or two, and it's possible to size the print to factor in all these costs. As people have said before, when they are effectively handing out £1500 profit minimum for a nights work and £500 stake people will get violent.
I'm glad they keep the prices down as even if you get one from source in your life its a massive saving for people that can't afford the secondary market.
Hats off to the fans that queued though, personally i don't even mind people that are strapped for cash and queue with the idea of selling it at some point. It's the idea of mass syndicates, professional flippers that spoil it for me.

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon, GREY Queue Jumping, by My Name is Frank on Dec 17, 2010 0:01:04 GMT 1, I'll say it one more time, buy tickets and that money goes directly to charity, then stick them all in a tombola, have some children's toys and games, maybe a street party with gala pie and cockles and whelks, hell why not have a knee's up. Would be fantastic when you get someone like Neil Buchanan or Milli or Vanilli to pull the name's from a hat to announce those lucky enough to buy a print. Do it in brockwell park and then if you fail, you can cool down in the lido, can't think of anything finer

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon, GREY Queue Jumping, by Martin DK on Dec 17, 2010 0:07:21 GMT 1, I think the Grey edition was because POW accidentally put up the "buy" button the next morning after the release.
Its a bit of both
"Our database was overwhelmed with people adding to basket at exactly the same time & a small number of prints were allocated twice. The small number of prints that became available on Friday were related to something else & clearly those prints should never have been made available."
I remember I missed the one on Friday (second day) by a couple of minutes. Was F5'ing, but had to go out the door. Came back - and they was sold - haha. Crazy.
