Olympia Auctions π¬π§ London, by adrscib on Jan 27, 2007 18:15:01 GMT 1, I have the following confidential information which I would like to disclose. (Some of you might already be aware but it seems no one started the argument in this board).
In my opinion we're in for a general renewed interest in our idol. This info was sent to me in January but now I am willing to share it with you. This is a press release from Sotheby's to its members (can be accessed if you become a member so there is nothing top secret)...
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 7 (On view: February 2 and 4-6) Contemporary Art
The Olympia Contemporary Art sales offer contemporary works at affordable prices (estimates start at Β£1,000) and key international artists of the late 20th and early 21st centuries are always represented β there are regular offerings of household names such as Damien Hirst, Andy Warhol, Julian Opie, Keith Haring, Sarah Lucas, Gerhard Richter. In addition to the older, more established artists on the contemporary scene, the sales also regularly introduce new, younger, more cutting edge artists to the auction world and recent examples have included the likes of Bansky, Chiho Aoshima and Tam Ochiai. The Olympia Contemporary sales present an exciting mix of old and new talent. Following a very successful 2006 for the Contemporary Art department at Olympia, 2007 looks set to be as equally promising and exciting.
Highlighting the forthcoming February sale will be three (now increased to 7) works by the urban artist Banksy, all of which have come from private collections closely acquainted with the anonymous artist. The works will come to the market at a time when interest in Banksy is stronger than ever. His acrylic and spraypaint stencil on canvas entitled Bombing Middle England and illustrated on the previous page, is the most valuable of the three works on offer. This piece was commissioned directly by the vendor in 2001 and is unique β it has an estimate of Β£30,000-Β£50,000. Balloon Girl (illustrated on the front cover) is from an edition of 25 and is expected to fetch Β£7,000-Β£10,000 while his Bomb Hugger carries an estimate of Β£18,000-Β£25,000. The Brighton-based street artist Antony Micallef, will also feature in the sale and it will, very excitingly, be the first time that a work by him appears at auction. Micallef has close associations with Banksy given that they are represented by the same agent.
Works to be auctioned:
1) BOMBING MIDDLE ENGLAND acrylic and spraypaint stencil on canvas 30,000 β 50,000 GBP
2) Glory spray paint on found lithographic print in artist's frame 20,000 β 30,000 GBP
3) BOMB HUGGER acrylic and spraypaint stencil on canvas 18,000 β 25,000 GBP
4) Untitled acrylic and spraypaint stencil on canvas 8,000 β 12,000 GBP
5) PRECISION BOMBING acrylic and spraypaint stencil on canvas 15,000 β 20,000 GBP
6) BALLOON GIRL spraypaint stencil on primed canvas 7,000 β 10,000 GBP
7) Ballerina with Action Man parts painted resin 15,000 β 20,000 GBP
Micallef work:
UNTITLED acrylic on primed canvas 5,000 β 7,000 GBP

Olympia Auctions π¬π§ London, by adrscib on Jan 27, 2007 18:58:50 GMT 1, my whole point is... from a marketing viewpoint all our prints are going to double / treble in value depending on the auction market results.
the hype will raise the prices of prints... if i had the money i would buy more prints NOW, and i would hold on to my prints if i were thinking of selling.
Those who are selling now will kick ass in 1 months time. those who are courgeues enough to buy now at "inflated" prices are making a big bargain.
And for Banksy unfortunately for himself / his idealogies, his namesake has become a big business!

Olympia Auctions π¬π§ London, by adrscib on Jan 27, 2007 19:01:58 GMT 1, and you know who the winner is? Lazinc... and they will use banksy to raise pump up the value of micallef (they are realeasng just one print) to hype and test the market!!!!...
and three of banksy prints also come from laz provenance!!!
Although i do not remember him, but i've read his story (of JM Basquait).... I see Banksy as the living J.M. Basquait (history is repeating itself).

Olympia Auctions π¬π§ London, by atomcore on Jan 27, 2007 20:30:35 GMT 1, Just thought I'd let you know that I popped into Sotheby's last week to pick up the Feb 7th catalogue. They are long sold out. Apparently they don't tend to sell out usually, I can't imagine why they have for this auction. F**cking bunch of t*ssers, ar*eholes and c*nts. Er, and knobs.

The 7th Feb 'Banksy' cat. is for the Olympia sale @ 1:30. This sale is no longer shown on the calander or catalogue list, probably due to the cataalogue selling out. I bought mine off the website, www.sothebys.com a week or two ago. For the last sale with Banksys in it I managed to go into Sothebys and pick up a copy of the catalogue (with the green Banksy Mona Lisa on the front ) the day after the sale for Β£4 as they reduce the price after the sale. The Β£30 catalogue that someone mentioned is for another sale on the same date but at Sothebys Bond Street. Its worth signing up on the Sothebys site for future sales.

Olympia Auctions π¬π§ London, by mido on Jan 28, 2007 1:51:19 GMT 1, can we be clear.....
seems to be 3 auctions, with 3 (or maybe 4) catalogues...
07 Feb 07 Auction Contemporary Art [W07710] London, Olympia 4 x banksy / 1 x Micallef - catalogue doesn't seem to be available to buy online 07 Feb 07 Auction Contemporary Art, Evening Sale [L07020] London, New Bond Street No banksys 08 Feb 07 Auction Contemporary Art Day Sale (Morning and Afternoon) [L07021] London, New Bond Street 3 x banksys. 2 separate cats on sale online? Β£30 each? (they have the same cat number though!!)
the 2 catalogues with the banksy's in are the 8th feb one, and the 7th feb DAYTIME. 8th is a morning and afternoon auction.
the 7th Feb evening auction is a much smaller auction, hence the cheaper catalogue, and no banksy's in it that I can see...
I'm confused... maybe....

Of course they are conservative - that is part of the game! Not exciting if you actually predict what a piece sells for - then you can't use the hype to your advantage.

Olympia Auctions π¬π§ London, by donkeydaddy on Feb 2, 2007 13:02:15 GMT 1, Had a walk around Sotheby's yesterday, my first time in there. Squillions of quids worth of art on the wall but no Banksy yet. They were setting up the viewing marquee outside as we left. What intrigued me though was the wasp with the gas-mask canvas was listed as being owned by Art Republic. Shame that never made it onto their website!
