It is far more effective putting one thing online and it being seen by 1000 people as apposed trying to get 1000 people to you.

I tend to agree in many respects, but am not sure this can work with art, unless the future is stencil art where there's no depth. It's easy to buy this type of art from a JPEG, but other (and many) forms of art need to be seen in person to be appreciated...

On a side note, QR codes have been used on packaging in japan for almost 5 years as a standard. The uk and technology is very behind. We visited silicon valley up near San jose when over in LA and saw some things that will make your eyes water. And I don't mean the strippers

If the photoshop models to sell clothes, im sure people will photoshop crappy art to make it look good.

You're not a million miles off key on the comment, but not sure sticking the simpsons dog on a banksy is a particularly strong way of portraying the message you have in mind. The future of social art online must be interactivity, to experience an individual adventure that you can directly influence or participate in.
