why though? If you dont like it dont buy it - but to moan and groan because he is doing something different, now who is taking the piss?
Some of you, all you care about is when the Banksy release is going to happen or that Banksy is the only artist that matters. Plenty of people like Paul's work and no doubt it will sell - so your opinion counts for nothing in the bigger scheme of things.

M&S - Paul Insect - Friday 3rd December, by saint on Nov 30, 2010 11:54:26 GMT 1, Oh are we not allowed to have an opinion on whether an artist is hitting the standard he should or not? I think we are. As for banksys print, its equally as bad as this one, frankly none of the prints coming out from POW this xmas are good enough IMO, they're all low standard. Now, so what if people like Pauls other work? does that mean he can churn out stuff that isn't good enough and we should mindlessly buy it? Nope, critique is how an artist improves, but none of these guys feel the need to improve anymore cos of people sheepishly buying cos of their name, and then flipping it on here/ebay the week later.

in the same breathe am I not allowed to express my opinion because I think he is hitting the standards I expect and hope of him?
You or anyone can critique his works and any other artists works as much as you like, but to say "is he taking the piss", well that's not constructive criticism/feedback really is it? Just as much as someone is entitled to comment negatively on his or another artists works, then be prepared to accept that some will say positive things. Each to their own and all that - I happen to like Paul's works, they are original in thought and process.

get it right pal
I said "no doubt they will sell out"
and its true, my, his, your opinions when it comes to art counts for nothing - because this forum or our opinions on it - do not impact the entire market and the decision making process for others.
As for the the print itself, from the sounds of it Harveyn will be buying one, I will also, so thats 2 down 153 to go

M&S - Paul Insect - Friday 3rd December, by Happy Shopper on Nov 30, 2010 12:18:08 GMT 1, My point is not so much about the image, but the price. If it was even Β£150, I'd say it was a fun print, and a possible good purchase. But Β£250 seems a little steep for this.
Having said that, I paid Β£450 (I think it was) for Liberty, which was an edition of 50, but also had some history (was a main piece in Bethlehem)... and a great image!

M&S - Paul Insect - Friday 3rd December, by saint on Nov 30, 2010 12:22:07 GMT 1, Joe can you not see a problem there? If the buyers opinion counts for nothing, if an artist can survive by releasing IMO mediocre work just because of his name, if he never receives critique, if he doesn't have to improve, then he never will improve, he'll never push the limits of his talent, and he'll never find out what he's capable of. For me an artist improves when he sees his work not sell, he worries that it isn't good enough and he goes back to the drawing board and tries to do something different.
Apologies if i read your post wrong, i thought you were saying that peoples opinions count for nothing as the work will still sell out. Personally i see this as a bad thing.

M&S - Paul Insect - Friday 3rd December, by Deleted on Nov 30, 2010 12:29:03 GMT 1, saint - if someone wants to critique someones works, negative or positive, then I am yay for that - all feedback is good feedback - but you need more substance then "are you taking the piss" to make it matter. However saying that Happyshopper has subsequently added he was talking about the price and not the piece - so the feedback has more substance to it.
Banksy has imo released some mediocre work, some people buy it because of his name, not because of the message behind it nor do some care, but yet these same people feel that his works have improved. The point is, we can all find faults/issues with someone or something - some like it some hate it. I am sure there are enough people out there who will like it enough to buy - so again my point is, our opinions count for nothing in the bigger scheme of things - when it comes to others making their own decisions.

M&S - Paul Insect - Friday 3rd December, by saint on Nov 30, 2010 12:35:25 GMT 1, Fair point Joe, and fingers crossed those buying will be buying because, like you, they actually like the print, and not, as i fear will happen, because POW have released it and its signed by Insect. Time will tell i guess, i seem to remember everyone saying how great D*s latest was, only for the majority to hit here for sale or be posted on ebay a few weeks later.
I feel the same about Banksy, and have said the same about his print as well mate. As i said i don't think any of the prints in the POW catalogue are as good as the artists themselves can do. This is just my opinion and i understand not everyone feels the same way.

M&S - Paul Insect - Friday 3rd December, by jusdeep on Nov 30, 2010 12:55:13 GMT 1, Being a big fan of Insect's work from way back and to his design agency work, I really don't see much appeal in either print. The bear is not bad, at least it's a move forward to a minor degree. The target print is printed very nicely and looks a lot better in the flesh, but I much prefer the plain black target pasters and target works he has done previosly. As with Happyshopper I also have a Liberty, which in my eyes is a classic from Paul and I didn't even think twice about paying a considerable sum for it. I think anyone buying these to flip will find themselves out of pocket, not that that's a bad thing.

I do like the bear and I do like his new work and prefer these new pieces to the girls kissing and whatnot.
