Nick Walker - BRATZ , by thx1138 on Aug 8, 2009 10:11:18 GMT 1, Finally got a chance to see this in person, came late in the day so missed a pic of actual foot traffic that surprisingly looks exactly like this stencil....
Beautiful 6ft. custom job by Mr. Walker, the sheer craftsmanship of this piece is admirable....exuisite multi layered stencil work with subliminal freehand techniques. Great location great idea (Highland/Santa Monica'ish) I want these all over town in different outfits....
now I gotta check out the Beverly Hills Cheewawa.....

Not everything has to be commodified into a print or editioned canvas.
I think it works very well as a street piece in LA.

Artistically (as I said) it's good, but I never said it would be turned into a print, I merely stated that it would not be the sort of thing many people would hang on their wall. It is an odd subject matter for Nick though....

Nick Walker - BRATZ , by kay7four on Aug 9, 2009 9:10:34 GMT 1, I think this is exactly what Nick should be doing. This is a street piece and not for canvas. This and the Cheewawa piece are perfect street hits for Los Angeles and I doubt Mr. Walker intended for us to wait for the prints to come out. I may be wrong but I say well fookin done Mr. Walker, great commentary on the city we live in.

I think he should spend some time concentrating on street work and take a break from the whole sales side for a while and just have some fun and build a new body of work.

Nick Walker - BRATZ , by nex on Aug 10, 2009 14:10:56 GMT 1, Interesting....can't say i like these pieces at all...but others have said they're meant for LA so us foreignors probably don't get them as we don't understand the context, much as golf sale probably means very little to people from outside of London. All they make think is how shallow LA must be, as these seem to emphasise that - with their lack of heart

Nick Walker - BRATZ , by twist65 on Aug 10, 2009 14:12:37 GMT 1, I agree with Low3, I really like this and would defo stop for a proper look if I saw it on the street, it's quite funny, technically well executed and I'm sure it works well in its context. I hope it doesn't make a print and, whether you like this or not, is be good to see some new NW ideas.

Hence"Does my head look big in this"

Always think its interesting that over the years you can start to get to know the stencil cutting style of Artists, and you can really see Nick Walkers in the hair and clothes of this piece.

If you're going to call something 'AWFUL' at least give the reasoning behind your opinion. Or do you not have enough intelligence to critique a piece without a one word reply?

Nick Walker - BRATZ , by jamo on Aug 11, 2009 17:35:51 GMT 1, I love this piece. Bit more humour than his usual work. Maybe we'll see the Bratz doll popping up on the next TMA print?
We're due a final TMA print soon aren't we?

Are we? I thought the point of the recent show at BRP was to be a retrospective and also signal no more TMA or Vandal character pieces.
Then again (and I'm speaking as someone who enjoys the majority (if not all) NW's stuff), if "Bratz" is that new direction, I'm not too sure that a u-turn will be out of the question. I'm not that everything he does has to be print friendly (a good point someone made above) - that's irrelevant - but this doesn't just doesn't cut the mustard.
