FAILE Temple - Lisbon, Portugal Arte 10, by mj on Jul 16, 2010 22:57:16 GMT 1, love BA mate I was 14 when I first went for a few drinks. Cool you got a chance to chat to them ( faile ) met them a few years back, pasting the streets next to fabric at 5am. Had a amazing hour with them and at the end got a massive paste up on a cardbox with loads of hand finishing.

I think Faile are the absolute bollocks. They are the only artists who keep me interested in this whole scene. Portugal exhibition looks top class.

FAILE Temple - Lisbon, Portugal Arte 10, by mj on Jul 17, 2010 9:05:22 GMT 1, yep I was around at that time, had an amazing years on those places and Kiobes on the other side of street of Fragile. My last memory of BA was getting very drunk with Nick Cave and Shaun the lead singer of Pogues.

FAILE Temple - Lisbon, Portugal Arte 10, by jackstranger on Jul 17, 2010 11:14:49 GMT 1, Keops, the Egyptian bar, owned by Alex:) and Nova too, where I used to play backgammon and start the night. And never forget Incognito, the best alternative music in town. How I miss those 90s with all the Ravechester explosion... Happy Mondays, Shamen and all the aceeeeeeeedddd music.
From the Portugusese side, do you know that Pop dell'Art have a new CD? Limited to 1000 and very good, Joรฃo Peste does not looses it.

FAILE Temple - Lisbon, Portugal Arte 10, by jackstranger on Jul 17, 2010 21:07:12 GMT 1, Keops is now a bar for the ladies Don't know about Alex, but everything changed then. Of course it would be great to have a couple of beers, perhaps we already met in those times... the people in these bars used to know each other, at least by sight.

Yer that looks quality . You can get a similar finish with plaster so it would be interesting to know what is made from

Pretty sure it's marble. They did the big Bunny Boy in marble (black and white).

Would be interesting to know just how much of this has been made by them and how much has been commisioned by other artists

FAILE Temple - Lisbon, Portugal Arte 10, by motor on Jul 18, 2010 12:06:53 GMT 1, Obviously there is no way they did these just by themselves in their studio. More likely it's been done in some factory under their supervision. My guess would be somewhere in Europe.
@ Jack Stranger. You've talked to them. Any more info?

Dont worry, im not one of them people that is going to complain about 'if they didnt make it its not Faile' Im just interested to know how far they have developed there own skills as artists, rather than how far they have pushed there style... does that make any sense ?

FAILE Temple - Lisbon, Portugal Arte 10, by jackstranger on Jul 18, 2010 12:20:52 GMT 1, This piece was planned for about two years. The little tiles are made of ceramic, seem like vitrified pieces and they really look great.
I did not asked those details about the work but there were branded boxes with materials so I think they were designed by Faile and then commissioned to some ceramic factories. I think it is marble.
I will be back there today and if I hope to meet them there and try to have more info

FAILE Temple - Lisbon, Portugal Arte 10, by jackstranger on Jul 18, 2010 20:31:13 GMT 1, The Temple was closed... on a Sunday?? but I took some shots for you.
I met there a couple of girls that worked for the Portugal Art organization so I have some more information. All the tiles an floor was done by Portuguese ceramic companies. Some of the tiles are traditional Portuguese tiles and the floor is real 'Calรงada Portuguesa' the traditional floor that you can see in Lisboa. The figures on the walls are Chinese porcelain and they came really from China.
I will just post some shots, please take a look at my Flickr page for more:)

FAILE Temple - Lisbon, Portugal Arte 10, by jackstranger on Jul 19, 2010 11:40:52 GMT 1, Silky, Faile told me that it is originally intended to stay about one month, but if it is authorized by the City Hall it may be a couple of months more.
The Temple was intended to be built but it can be 'un-built' and later 'rebuilt' in another location.
