Jef Aerosol π«π· Stencil Street Art , by Jef Aerosol on Sept 29, 2009 17:42:53 GMT 1, Bazzj04, here's what I replied to the same question, on the flickr J.A. group, quite a while ago :
dannybedeoconnor dit : what's with the arrows Jeff? Love your pieces by the way. Thanks. PostΓ© le 27 aoΓ»t 2007 Γ 9:33 (CEST). ( permalien | modifier | fermer | supprimer le sujet )
Jef Aerosol dit : Well, a lot has already been said about those arrows and i actually seldom reply to the question as I'd much rather leave people to their own interpretations and explanations ! However, here are some of the ideas that have already been expressed about my red arrows, by various people (some by myself !) :
- link between street signs and paintings - very urban, city sign, simple and neat - pointing at some important parts, details... - to emphasize a glaring look, dancing feet, smiles - adding some energy - attracting attention, directing the eye - easily recognizable, spottable, eye catching - second signature, logo, personal trademark, own sign - reference to Francis Bacon's red arrow - reference to Ernest Pignon Ernest who also once used an arrow, a long time ago - reference to Eros, cupidon's arrows, love... - red = blood / blood = life... - circulation, cycles, motion, stream, traffic - aesthetics, lines, geometrical sign vs human curves - reference to the mouse pointer on a computer screen - for the sake of repetition, leitmotiv, accumulation - make people wonder and question, mysterious, strange - make people feel puzzled, upset, sometimes irritated - graphic weapon , violent sign - fate : one way street / one way life / dead end - strong, powerful yet simple graphic element - a way of saying : this is only representation, not reality - did it once and it stuck - reference to Native Americans : bows & arrows - direction of time/ of space, past/future , here/there - rectangle + triangle = arrow - wink at the red dot : sold piece ! - no specific meaning, just looking good ! - personal reason
you can add your own version to the list ! I love reading new interpretations or feelings about my arrows...
this one isn't mine, but it's beautiful : gemismyname.com/2007/09/25/red-arrow/ PostΓ© le il y a 25 mois. ( permalien | modifier | supprimer ) Jef Aerosol (administrateur du groupe) a modifiΓ© ce sujet il y a il y a 21 mois.

I hate clonakilty, every sunday when I was a young'un the parents would load us into the car "c'mon we're going for a walk out clonakilty direction" ... ruined west cork for me!

Jef Aerosol π«π· Stencil Street Art , by Jef Aerosol on Dec 4, 2009 23:34:33 GMT 1,
Tokyo, Japan : After the French Embassy relocation, the former buildings are holding a huge art event called "No Man's Land" (the place doesn't belong to France any longer but doesn't belong to Japan again yet either !). The event is bringing together 70 artists from Japan and France and will last until january 31st, the buildings will be destroyed in february ! The works, most of which were created on the premises invade all the spaces both inside and outside of the remaining buildings : offices, corridors, library, staircases, basement, gardens, etc. The visitors can see all the fields of creation such as visual arts, design, sculpture, architecture, photography, graffiti, stencil art, live performances, conceptual installations, video, land art, music, etc. The opening evening was a huge success with more than 2000 people between 6 and 10 pm.
The artists are :
