Well said Pez. The problem is the entire scene, more specifically this forum is resonating with the one-off case of Banksy. Originals and small edition prints from relatively recently are worth a small fortune, and recent large editions fetch a pretty penny. This situation is the background to other releases by other artists and people are looking to catch the next one before he\she blows up.

Pez I agree with you to some degree but a lot of the art in this price bracket can be bought, enjoyed and then sold for a similar amount after the buyer has enjoyed it. This differs significantly from the other luxury goods markets of cars, technology etc. All of these make an immediate loss and the longer you enjoy it the more the loss. I have bought art enjoyed having it on the wall for a while then rung the changes and sold it to buy some more, this often is at a very similar price to which I bought it ofr allowing me to have enjoyed it for free.

Yeah, I don't doubt that there are occasions in this bubble where a piece you buy keeps its value or even increases in value. But I would suggest that the majority of pieces bought in the last year to 18 months have not kept their value. And I think this is true for most art purchases at our levels, it's obviously different at the top end of the market.

Outside this scene prints by well known artists can be available from source for years. Clearly the print is therefore not worth what you paid for it as soon as you buy it. But it doesn't stop you buying because you want to put it on your wall and enjoy it.

I think that the days of flipping for profit are over in the scene apart from the obvious artists which is a really good thing. You only have to look at the flood of prints at near to cost on Ebay to see this. This said there are still many prints from the larger artists on the scene that do hold their value and therefore people can buy, enjoy and recoup their money on. The problem lies for me in the quality of some of the prints that are being sold on the back of a few great artists. It's not that these other prints are not being created by talented people in tyhe main, but the volume and cost of prints that are hitting the scene.

I don't know how to explain that text stopki but basically, if you're charged VAT @ 17.5% on a piece like this Faile, you write to Customs & Excise describing the piece and that you believe VAT should have been charged at the reduced rate of 5%. They will eventually send you a cheque for the 12.5% difference.

Fact remains that had this specific print been released at, say $500, then it would have flown off the shelf and there would be a decent % of the release on the bay (or on here) with the usual bollocks sob story around selling it.

What I continue to find staggering is that people can actually be arsed to buy something and sell it for such a poxy return in terms of pound notes - it's not good practise to buy something for £100 and sell it for £120 odd. It's a waste of time yet it occurs regularly.....

Given the relationship between Banksy and POW then wonder why commercially they don't bang out 300 singed prints at £1750 (?) rather than £450 odd....? They're not always a charity and I don't buy the 'affordable' argument any more since any one person / fan / collector is so unlikely to get one at source now in any event.

Dropping £300K in sales turnover per release won't pay the rent for eternity if you've got 'x' amount of sq ft on the cusp of the City, especially when the roster of alternative artists are possibly not contributing on a meaningful basis......

'never' is a long time - if this is their true mission statement then why not have a smaller office in a more secondary location or charge £60 odd for PC which is a process which takes seconds to administer?

WOW she arrived today and the amount of hand finishing on this little beauty has blown me away, this is my second Faile after Star spangled and i must say this is in another league, so many layers it looks more like an original with all the different coloured brush strokes, check it out ;D ;D

Going to take print straight to the framers.

But I think I have to float the print as I don't want to crop the image with a matting board.

You can tell Faile loved the image (As they said it was their favorite image from the series.) So they took time and care into the production of the print. Well Done FAILE!!!
