Guy Denning π¬π§ New Paintings β’ Neomodern , by top on Feb 4, 2008 22:45:23 GMT 1, how come the preview (6th) is the day after the opening (5th)?
I queried this with RPG..
Tuesday the 5th is only a viewing of the available work, Private viewing (all work will be available for purchase)from 7pm on Wednesday the 6th.
Reason being that Guy could not make London on the 5th.

Guy Denning π¬π§ New Paintings β’ Neomodern , by scavos on Feb 5, 2008 1:18:06 GMT 1, A stunning new set of work. 'Mort des amants' is awesome. And 'Lilith' is up there with Minotaur Woman IMO. Not a word I would normally use to describe Guys work but 'Lilith' is simply beautiful....in a haunting way of course!

Guy Denning π¬π§ New Paintings β’ Neomodern , by top on Feb 3, 2008 2:59:49 GMT 1, I am in no position to critique Guy's work, so I will have to pass on the competition thank you..
I think it would be folly for me to pretend to know about art and politics, but I would like to say that since the 5/11 show, and these stunning latest works, we are very fortunate to witness such an extreme talent.
Would I be wrong to say that his work can: run through your entire senses & emotions? enthuse you so much as to make you ponder your own mortal existence of being? stop you in your tracks to just sit in a time warp transfixed by beauty? question your own mortality and purpose as a human? haha! love it..
..feel like I have known him for a thousand years.. thank you Guy, for providing a door to travel through..appreciate it in this world ;D
Guy will be remembered historically as one of this centuries iconic artists. Strong words, but I stand by them.
'Good old oil on canvas depicting the world as seen right the fuck now..' epic stuff!
People will always find their own truths and interpretations through Guy's work, political or otherwise, I have found mine and am ever grateful..keep on painting Guy..
right, bollox to the free print, lets have that 'Lilith' canvas!!
;D ;D ;D

Why do people feel inclined to slate someone when they are doing something off their own back and positive?

Guy Denning π¬π§ New Paintings β’ Neomodern , by pezlow on Feb 3, 2008 8:34:44 GMT 1, Here's my critique. Somehow I doubt I will win but If I do I will donate it to the Banksy charity auction.
Guy Dennings new show at Red Propellor presents Denning's take on the events of 9.11. Pieces titled "Anti Glory", "Like a New Pearl Harbour" and "We watched it come down" depict suicide bombers, victims and the now familiar images of the twin towers during the attack.
A hackneyed political art critic may be tempted to say that they have seen this all before. Indeed Denning seems to acknowledge this in the title of the show "Same shit, Different Day". Against the background of political artists who convey their points with subtlety, humour or horror it is unclear exactly what Denning is attempting to say.
What is Denning's take on 9/11? These pieces don't tell us. Denning's style is dark and moody. He references the poems of Baudelaire in his titles whilst one piece entitled "Lilith", presumably a reference to the mythological storm demon, implies that there may have been something natural or inevitable about these events.
There is no doubting Denning's intelligence and talent as a painter but ultimately the viewer of this show is left wondering whether he really has been presented with anything new or whether he has just seen yet another take on 9/11, with questionable motives.

Guy Denning π¬π§ New Paintings β’ Neomodern , by wimpy on Feb 3, 2008 9:53:40 GMT 1, It appears as if Guy may have actually used SH@T as a medium here.
Like a New Pearl Harbor (Project for the New American Century), is probably the single most ignorant and overly presumptuous title for a crap piece of artwork.
Finally, cashing in with FIVE different crap images of the same 9/11 crash makes it all laugable to me. Should be giving all the prints away.
Cheers.

Guy Denning π¬π§ New Paintings β’ Neomodern , by Bram on Feb 3, 2008 13:47:07 GMT 1, Guy Denning is the most talented artist on the scene right now. His maturity is without question and also progressive.
With regards to the meaning behind these paintings, is it not up to the viewer to decide? One thing is for sure, Guy's pieces are much deeper than at 1st glance. His portraits can depict fear, pain, hope and deep emotion but not necessarily at 1st glance.
Imo there is something deeper than the subject matter here. You can "feel" these paintings.
Not everyone will get Guy Denning, I don't get a handful of artist on the scene right now but the ones that do appreciate his work seem to fall in love with it. When asked to offer a "perspective" on these new pieces, well one woman wrote of being brought to tears after viewing some of the powerful 5/11 pieces. How do you put that kind of reaction to a painting into words?
If you don't get it, I will quote from Guy's latest blog entry.
"keep looking"

I don't see where anyone complained about RP giving away a free print.
We are talking about the work itself and not the giveaway. So who really is shallow? Riiiiiiiight.
