Phone Booth Gallery is extremely proud to announce Handiedan's first print release with us in 2013!  "Alectrona No. 2" continues the tactile qualities of the previous few releases, really showcasing the 3-Dimensional aspects of Han's amazing original collage work reproduced on giclee form.

 

Officially releasing Friday, February 22nd around 9:00 am Pacific Time, "Alectrona No. 2" is a horizontal 16.5" x 21.5" giclee on 315gsm Innova Smooth Natural White Cotton Rag.  The prints are signed and numbered by the artist, and are $125.

 

Handiedan's work has been on fire lately, most recently she participated in an expertly curated museum show "HEY! Modern Art & Pop Culture II" at Musee La Halle Saint Pierre in Paris, and is currently preparing for a big solo show with Thinkspace Gallery in Los Angeles titled "Elegant Universe."

Thinkspace is excited to present Elegant Universe, featuring new work by Dutch artist Handiedan. Handiedan creates elaborate three-dimensional collage pieces from a cut and paste method of re-assemblage. Starting with the iconic imagery of the vintage pin-up girl, popularized in the 30’s, the artist creates complex images from a combination of pattern, figurative imagery, and symbol. Her materials are culled from a vast array of printed cultural currency. Appropriating everything from postage stamps, and legal tender, to origami paper patterns, and historical sheet music motifs, the artist’s work is a combination of re-design and aggregation. Her multi-layered compositions transform found two dimensional imagery,  literally re-imagining it in relief.

Handiedan’s facility and skill in graphic design, illustration, and photography, is immediately visible in her complex works. Graphically sophisticated, their actual assemblage involves a highly detailed sculptural component. The artist incorporates wood and other materials to raise the surfaces and increase their dimensionality. At times the works feel like complex visual puzzles, with pattern and figurative elements interchangeably intermixed. The degree of complexity and depth is impressive. A pastiche of historical styles, the artist borrows from the Baroque to the Neo-Classical, and from the Victorian to the post-war eras. Handiedan explores beauty as a process of aggregation and re-construction, as she re-assembles the found into highly detailed compositions. The artist also incorporates subtle drawing elements - small tattoos, and seemingly haphazard ballpoint pen doodles - to remind us of her agency in the work’s making, and to strategically interrupt her artfully re-purposed illusions.

Internationally exhibited, Handiedan has shown extensively. Her work is currently part of  a significant Museum survey show entitled: HEY! Modern Art & Pop Culture II at Musée La Halle Saint Pierre, in Paris, France.

Heads ups to all members, Dont Buy From LAMINATE EVER! after almost 6 months of me pre order and paid for the Faile signed magazine, I still havent receive mine. i have emailed them and messaged them on facebook and no replay.

Pretty much the same here but I have replies that just say "will ship next month"......repeat each month for the last 6 months. I'm a mug for buying their crap....never again though.

I dont post on here (this is my first) but do visit regulary, i also had the same problem with laminate but i recently got a full refund from them. The e.mail adress i have for them is [e-mail]

always the same story with Laminate, you pay, you wait for months, they change the offer with time, you send them messages to understand what's going on, no reply.... and one day you receive something. It looks nice, but after such a long wait, you're just so fed up with them that you just don't care anymore.... This was my experience with the josh keyes release, and whatever they might release in the future, i'll never order anything from them. But, although it looks like it, this is not a scam, you end up receiving what you ordered... just too late to enjoy it.

Indeed I waited so long for my Rone print, it really was a real anticlimax when I picked it up from the post office. Hooray yawn. Lovely print but they had to send it to Australia to get it signed, then for him to send it back to them signed and for them to decide when to send out. They must get plenty of orders as the prices are good, but then can't manage the orders. Where's Handidan live?

Handiedan is based in Holland, so who knows these will take. Items usually of fair quality but there customer service is terrible!
