Share Tips - Anyone else trade?, by grafik on Sept 18, 2010 9:45:56 GMT 1, good day yesterday, nice hike in the prices and some great news.
If you are holding RKH you might like to look to sell out end of monday or tuesday and move your profits into DES
Take out your original money maybe?? keep the wife happy etc..
to the person above who found me on PH. so what? i have brought and sold alot of things in my life, shares, paintings, prints etc but thankfully by making a little money it allows me to have the lifestyle i do and also have the art i do on my wall... I have flipped one print in my whole life from source, which was a dface collage, and i wish i kept it.

The jump was due to the results of the flow test on the Sealion well. which said basically it was all good and the black stuff was flowing to the surface really well at 2000-2500 barrels per day unaided.
NOW rockhopper have given the big drill back to DES so in effect their SP will rise on monday because of the weekend news then fall back slowly but surely..
the time is now to put your money into DESIRE. they have i think 6 wells to drill and a strike and it will put them upto RKH levels.
Good luck all.

The problem is AT&T doesn't get reception in a lot of places in America specifically in major metropolitan areas like New York & California. The phones are great but AT&T sucks - if you want to cancel your subscription with AT&T they charge you $325.00 - even if it is their fault that they can't provide reception! The rumor is that Verizon is going to launch an IPHONE in the color white only in January - if this is true than AT&T stock will plummet because everyone who loves their IPHONE but can't get basic reception with AT&T will leave AT&T in droves. Just my 2 cents !!!!!! and I do not work in the telecommunications industry and this is purely my opinion sorry if anyone on here works for AT&T but the reality is that if you charge for a service than please provide a service - another reason monopolies suck !!

Index and forget it. Modern Portfolio Theory is where it is at.

People win the lottery, that doesn't mean investing in the lotto is a good investment. Is it possible to outperform the market? Sure. That does not make it the rule. After tax and commissions you will be lucky if you are any were near at par on a risk adjusted basis with the market as a whole.
Nothing against Warmgun, if he has made some cash I would suggest he quit while he is ahead. In the long run you are extremely unlikely to beat the market.

Share Tips - Anyone else trade?, by stillborncrisps on Sept 19, 2010 0:19:31 GMT 1, Having learnt a few hard lessons at the start I wouldn't say active investing is 'throwing money away' unless you're totally clueless (as I was then). I can see the rhythms and patterns to certain shares now, I'm confident I can build up more pocket money than if I left it in some stock related fund.
Tax only comes into it after 10k of drawn profit in a year.

It helps to known what your doing or any inside info you can get. High risk game but can have high gains. Most people know no insider info or know what to do so for the average guy keep away

Inside information aside, you shouldn't try to beat the market. That does not mean don't buy equity, that means take build a low cost, passive well diversified portfolio.
And to your point on bankers, most financial advisers, investment bankers, investment managers, hedge fund managers, brokers and the rest make their money on fees and commissions, not from stock picking.

Piling big cash into the shares of a single company is a big risk. I've set myself a limit to what I'll invest. It's a sum that I could afford to lose if the worst came to the worst. I haven't invested heavily and never would.
Hats of to grafik really as he's done a lot of research, took a calculated risk and it payed off for him.
You're dead right though mike, that isn't going to happen time and time again.

its not new new, but new to me
Interesting comment about no money in it, i personally mix my trading between SB's, shares and options, my share choices come from many hours of research and a little information from a few family members who work in the oil industry.
And while i may have only made enough from my last trade to buy a car, family members who also invested have made 6 figure sums.

This is just from the weekend press. I think well see some sort of retrace either toward the end of the day, or tomorrow.
DES is falling a little bit which is good, cheaper for me to get in at.
